Joanne didn't like "the fang look of her cuspids" and the way her front teeth tilted back.  After seeing an article on WestcoastSmile Dental Studio in BC Business Magazine she finally decided to see if Dr. Jeffrey Norden could help her.  She told Dr. Norden that her goal was to "improve her smile" and could Invisalign orthodontics do it.   During consultation we discussed both the options of either Invisalign orthodontics or porcelain veneers.   In this case, Dr Norden found that orthodontic correction was not as simple as first appeared so we gave Joanne a Smile Makeover using 4 porcelain veneers and simply contouring her fang-like cuspids.  We completed this smile makeover for Joanne in May and she was thrilled that her smile could look so much better with only 4 veneers.

Joanne was so happy that she wrote us this beautiful testimonial; here it is:

JOANNE'S TESTIMONIAL:

"My teeth look amazing. It's like they have always been this way. I could not be more pleased with the results ... click here to read more!

Dr. Norden and the team at WestcoastSmile Dental Studio strive to give each and every patient this kind of experience.   Our whole team takes pride when we get this kind of feedback.  Thanks Joanne.

If you are wondering what can be done to improve your smile, call our office today and we will be more than happy to book you in for a Smile Consultation!

Long Canucks Playoff Run Nets "Canucks for Kids" Big Winners

The long and winding road to bring the first Stanley Cup to Vancouver ended bitterly and violently on a Wednesday night.  The final series went seven games and ended in Vancouver with the good guys losing.  It was an incredible roller coaster of a Stanley Cup run and we came up just one game short of the ultimate prize.  As Canuck Team Dentist going through to the finals really showed me how much of a physical and mental grind and challenge it is for players, management and all staff.  I can certainly see now why they call it the toughest championship in sports.  Luckily there was only one serious dental injury, that of Mason Raymond but as revealed after the series ended, many of the Canuck players had serious to minor injuries that they played with.

Although it was disappointing to lose the series there was a silver lining in the black cloud.   The two month playoff run allowed our playoff ZOOM! Whitening Special to go on for 2 months and thanks to many of our clients, new and existing who participated, we were able to use 100.00 of each ZOOM! and donate it to "Canucks for Kids" charity. ( place link here) .   Come the opening of Canucks next hockey season Dr Norden and WestcoastSmile Dental Studio and Whitening Spa will present to "Canucks for Kids" a cheque for $3400.00.  We look forward to future opportunities to give back to our community.

The first prize of our Facebook/Twitter contest, a ticket to watch a Stanley Cup final game with Dr. Norden, went unwon as we didn't reach 300 fans but we did get to 150. We decided to thank you, our patients, for your support by giving away a "Canucks at Forty" book as a second prize. We randomly selected one of our Facebook fans and Jimmy Y. was our lucky winner!

Become a fan on Facebook and stay-tuned for future give-aways, you could be our next winner!

Dental Care During Travel

A Checklist for Safe Dental Care in Foreign Countries

It's summer and, for many of us, this means it's time to travel! If you are travelling, it is unlikely that dental care is on the top of your mind. However, should you get a toothache or crack a filling while outside the country, it is imporant to know that:

  • The high standards Canada has set for infection control and safety in health care may not be equally matched by other countries;
  • In some parts of the world, gloves, sterile instruments, disposable needles, and safe water are not routine elements of dental practice, increasing your risks of getting infections such as hepatitis B or HIV/AIDS; and
  • The standards for educating and licensing dental professionals can vary widely between countries.

In case of a dental emergency in a foreign country, knowing what to look for when seeking dental care can help a traveller avoid unnecessary risks. Health Canada has put out an informative checklist for you to consult before seeking dental care. You can find it here: http://www.hc-sc.gc.ca/hl-vs/oral-bucco/travel-voyage/checklist-aide-memoire-eng.php

Welcome Dr. David Khang

drkhang

Dr. Norden and his staff at Westcoast Smile would like to introduce you to our new associate, Dr. David Khang.

Dr. Khang grew up in Toronto where he studied and graduated from the University of Toronto, Faculty of Dentistry in 1991. He originally came out to Vancouver to pursue his goal of competing in the Ironman triathalons. Much like Dr. Norden, once bitten by the west coast lifestyle, he found it hard to return to Toronto and settled here in Vancouver to practice dentistry.

Dr. Khang had associated with Dr. Norden at his Richmond practice and has returned to Dr. Norden's WestcoastSmile Dental Studio and Whitening Spa.

While committed to excellence in dentistry, Dr. Khang has also devoted his time and curiosity to other disciplines, including psychology (BSc), theology, and fine arts (BFA, MFA.) He currently splits his time between dentistry, teaching part-time at Emily Carr University of Art+Design, and his visual art practice. David is internationally acclaimed in the world of visual arts.

We are now happy to offer Friday appointments to our patients as Dr. Khang will be working with us two Fridays per month.

Have a great and safe summer.

Sincerely,

Jeffrey Norden
