Students, Women Making a Difference
Through Unique Foundation Programs
At the Blue Spring Education Foundation in Missouri, Executive Director Katherine Barton and her team have created two innovative programs to support the Blue Spring School District: Kids R.O.C.K. (Reaching Others by Choosing Kindness) and the Women Endowing Education Group.
The Kids R.O.C.K. program was inspired by three elementary students who wanted to reach out to their peers in a meaningful way. The program's goal is to teach children the value of philanthropy by donating money to help their less fortunate classmates with such things as school supplies, lunch tickets or even a pair of eye glasses. All the money pledged and donated goes to the Blue Spring Education Fund, where it can be distributed to take care of student needs.

Ten Tips for a More Effective LEF Board
 1. Reduce the number of full board meetings to bi-monthly or quarterly and schedule committee meetings in the alternating months. Board meetings may run longer, but more work gets accomplished through committees.
2. Encourage board members to see their role as reaching out and engaging the full community in the work of the organization. Click here for more. |

Save Valuable Meeting Time With a Consent Agenda
The consent agenda is useful for streamlining board meetings by grouping routine items such as minutes, treasurer's report, committee reports and others to be approved as a group rather than as separate agenda items. The board can decide what routine items to include in the consent agenda. Sometimes a board member will read the board materials related to the consent agenda and have a question he would like answered before he votes. Or, he believes the issue still requires discussion before he would feel comfortable voting. Those are two distinct scenarios, and they receive two distinct treatments. Click here for more
