Poteau FoundationThe Oklahoma Foundation for Excellence is seeking nominations for its Outstanding Program Awards for Local Education Foundations (LEFs). In response to suggestions from LEF leaders across the state, the Foundation for Excellence began in 2006 presenting annual Outstanding Program Awards to recognize three to five innovative programs sponsored or administered by public school foundations in Oklahoma.  Click here to find out more.
 
DonorsChoose.org Announces Oklahoma Kick-Off at Fall Forum
 
DonorsChoose.org, a national nonprofit that links public school teachers in need of resources with potential donors via the Internet, helped kick off its service in Oklahoma by making a presentation at OFE's Fall Forum for Local Education Foundations in October.
 
Natalie French, associate director of DonorsChoose.org, said the mission of DonorsChoose.org is to create a nation where students in every community have the resources they need to learn. "We want to improve public education by engaging citizens in an online marketplace where teachers describe and individuals fund specific student projects," she said.
Eight Ways Your LEF Can Promote School-Based Mentoring
 
The Oklahoma Foundation for Excellence is encouraging Oklahoma's 200 Local Education Foundations to become leading advocates for mentoring in Oklahoma's public schools.
 
OFE founder and chairman David L. Boren has challenged LEF leaders to help "harness the goodness" of Oklahomans by mobilizing volunteers in their communities to mentor students in need. Inspired by Boren's vision and the proven impact of mentoring on academic success, the foundation launched the David and Molly Boren Mentoring Initiative to promote the growth and development of school-based mentoring programs hroughout the state.  Click here to find out more.

My how I've realized how much I take for granted and how much I appreciate the little things! The ice storm that hit Oklahoma in December quickly put me "survival mode" for over a week without electricity.
