 Greetings!

Let the 3rd Annual Overcome Ovarian Cancer Walk BEGIN!!

Only 133 Days until WALK DAY!!

After reworking some of the kinks from last year and adding some cool new functions and fundraising tools,
we are thrilled to announce that the 2008 Walk website is
                                       officially launched!

We take pride in our Walk as it is GOCA's only fundraising event. Without all of you and the efforts you make daily to create awareness,  GOCA could not have accomplished what we have over the past year.  We have an assertive goal this year of $200,000 and we are confident that with the support of all our walkers, Walk teams and sponsors we will get there!    As we ramp up for an incredible event,  on behalf of the Board of Directors, it is with grateful appreciation,  we say THANK YOU!

If you wish to share any questions, comments or ideas- please contact me at nnoto@gaovariancancer.org

Stay tuned for continued updates through out the summer! Thanks again and get your walking shoes out of the closet!!

Sanctuary Office Park, Alpharetta

There are a few new changes this year so read carefully as you go through online registration:

1. There will be a $35.00 minimum donation per walker which will include registration and an official 2008 t-shirt!

2. You will be asked to indicate your t-shirt size when you sign up and be able to order additional t-shirts.  We will  offer an official 2008 Survivor t-shirt for survivors if they choose.

3. We have "WALKER TOOLS" online this year!  Sample letters, Walk FAQ sheet, pledge sheets, fundraising ideas, corporate team tools and more!

4. Sending donation emails and reminders is easier!  You can download your Outlook contacts directly into your Walk account and send away!

5. Online donations will be credit cards only. Checks are always accepted, but will need to be mailed directly to the GOCA offices with the participant name and/or team name in the memo line.

MEDIA LIBRARY UPDATE!!

GOCA continues to expand its efforts in community outreach and mission of awareness and education!  We are pleased to announce that we have added videos to the Media Library under the following Directories: Family and Caregivers, and Speaking from Experience!

These videos provide content and a frame of reference that are not readily available to those patients and families living with cancer. We are proud to be able to bring them to you.  GOCA wishes to thank all those who gave of their time, knowledge and participation to this project.

GOCA now has a very compelling story to tell with the Media Library concept of Community Outreach and will actively look to open communications with strategic corporate and medical partners that can sponsor our efforts.

FAMILY AND CAREGIVERS DIRECTORY

The videos in this directory will focus on both physical and emotional intimacy issues from the patient and husband/partner viewpoints, as well as the changing dynamics of the family when a member is diagnosed with cancer.  Topics include understanding the emotions and expectations of the patient, taking on the role of caregiver, the impact on children, the impact of changing dynamics on self image, family and marriage; and the emotions and expectations of extended family and support network.

SPEAKING FROM EXPERIENCE

This directory contains various topics discussed with experts in the fields of oncology, psychological and oncology social work, survivors and family members.  Topics include dealing with reoccurrence, the initial reaction to dealing with a cancer diagnosis, a woman's changing sense of self image, and integrating a cancer diagnosis into your life.

We invite you to have a look!

Drug Compound, NV-128, Leads To Death Of Ovarian Cancer Cells Resistant To Chemotherapy
In a discovery that may be useful for maintaining remission in chemo-resistant ovarian cancer, Yale scientists report that pre-clinical studies have shown the drug compound NV-128 can induce the death of ovarian cancer cells by halting the activation of a protein pathway called mTOR.

Ovarian cancers may originate in fallopian tube
New research suggests that fallopian tube cells rather than ovarian surface cells are the probable site of origin of most cases of ovarian serous carcinoma, the most common type of ovarian cancer.

TEAM SOUL to SOLE- Triathalon

proceeds to benefit GOCA!

Team "Soul to Sole" was created to continue ovarian cancer education and fundraising efforts , in honor of Wendy Sheron, mother of Board Member Heidi Barron.

In the 2007 event the Team placed 5th in the Men's Relay Division and raised over $15,000 for Ovarian Cancer Research.   Wendy's strength, determination, passion, and spirit drives the team members forward towards their goal again this year.

Thanks to Heidi and Doug Barron and Team Soul to Sole for the support of GOCA!
