COACHES
CORNER

Head coach Dan Payne returns to lead the Aztecs on the heels of his impressive debut against South Africa in the Rugby World Cup.
Coach Payne is very pleased with the team's efforts so far.
Asked on the impressive start of the team Coach Payne, stated "that we have four wins in what will be a very tough 8 game schedule for us. These victories make the target on us bigger and brighter. Every game remaining will be a battle as team's contest for number 1. UCLA, UCSB, ASU & UOA have all been ranked in the top 25.
We have 3 weeks remaining to complete a very special season. We now need to train with that attitude in our mind."
The Foundation thank's Dan & and the rest of the coaching staff for their efforts.
Nice Start and keep the train rolling!

Greetings!
The Aztec rugby team won again last weekend and is now positioned in the drivers seat to capture the Southern California Rugby crown.
In a special Friday night game that saw the weather clear after some recent storms, the team took the field against UCSD. The team was very excited as a nice home crowd developed along with additional foot traffic for the SDSU vs USD baseball game.
After some initial miscues the team regrouped at about the 15 minute mark and never looked back. The team completed dominated UCSD in every facet of the game and rolled to a 75-0 victory. A total of 12 trys were scored on the night leaving a tired and dazed UCSD team in its wake!!!
The team now stands at 4-0 and is the only team in SCRFU that is undefeated. Along with the record comes a movement in the Collegiate National ranking to #8.

| Remaining Home Schedule
The Aztecs have two home games remaining that will take place over the same weekend. The first game is the night of Friday March 7th against the University of Arizona. U of A has been ranked in the top 25 throughout the year and appears to be vying for the number 3 slot in the SCRFU playoffs. This should be a very tough and solid match for the Aztec's.
The second game is scheduled for Sunday March 9th against Arizona State University. They too have been consistently ranked in the top 25 and appear on their way to a 3rd or 4th place finish in the league.
Both games are scheduled to be played on the football practice fields located adjacent (West) to the 55th street parking structure. Don't forget to pay for parking at the yellow kiosk structures located in the front of the parking lot.
Please check: aztecrugby.com for any last minute scheduled adjustments. Listed below are the scheduled dates, games and times.
Friday Mar 7th vs UOA 6:00 PM
Sunday Mar 9th vs ASU 1:00 PM
Aztec gear will be on sale at all the games.
Come on out and show your support!!!

| Save the Date For Alumni Road Trip:
Alumni March 15th will be a special gathering weekend for Aztec Rugby Alumni & Parents. The team is putting together its first ever alumni bus trip. A 40 foot motor coach for Aztec alumni, family and friends is being rented to travel from SDSU to UCLA. The motor coach will leave on the morning of Saturday the 15th and return after the scheduled league matches on the day.
The bus will make stops to, pick up and drop off, alumni or guests in Encinitas and in Orange County.
The cost of the trip is a mere $50.00 and will include an Aztec tee shirt, refreshments, food and a lively atmosphere.
If everything goes as planned the UCLA game will be the match that the Aztec's can secure 1st place in the league even with one match remaining.
Head coach Dan Payne is the organizer for this occasion so please contact him directly at: danieltpayne@aol.com

| NBC Telecast This Weekend & Next
Hey Aztec fans look for an Aztec Rugby highlight on this weeks NBC's sports telecast. The showing is scheduled to air on Sunday's March 2nd edition of Sportswrap with a potential followup of footage from the U of A or Arizona State Rugby match the following week. One more reason to come out and show your support!
Filming of the team's practice will occur on February 28 with interviews and segments of the team running through their practice.
As many of you may remember NBC did a very nice story on us last year after the team qualified for the Sweet 16s.
The Aztec Rugby Foundation would like to thank NBC, sports director Jim Laslavic and the film crew of Derek Torgensen for their support.
A special thank you also goes out to Aztec Rugby Alumni Frank Hafner for making the connection with NBC for this exposure. Nice job Frank!
