The Belz Museum of Asian and Judaic Art is committed to educating students through our extensive collection of Asian art. The collection consists mostly of Chinese art from the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911), and also pieces from later dynasties such as the Han and Tang, as well
as a dinosaur egg and other pre-historic fossils. Students are able to immerse themselves in the imperial dynastic system that ruled China for centuries with our elaborate jade and ivory carvings, cloisonne art, an emperor's chair and silk robes.
.
Asian art is only part of the impressive collection at the Belz Museum. The Judaic collection showcases powerful and emotional works of art created by contemporary Jewish artists living and working in Israel, such as Ofra Friedland and Frederic Brenner. Daniel Kafri is one of the most celebrated artstists in the Judaic Gallery which houses many bronze relief panels that beautifully illustrate stories from the Old Testament. Additionally, traditional Judaic items such
as special Seder plates and a large Chanukah menorah capture the beauty and importance
of Jewish ceremonial pieces.
The Belz Museum encourages teachers and administrators from all over the metropolitan area to experience the rich history and culture the museum can offer students. We give docent led educational tours at a great rate to schools from
the mid-south throughout the year, and want to make sure your school knows about us! |
