More than 320 people attended the United Way Victory Celebration on Wednesday evening at Roma Lodge where the 2011 campaign results were announced by Christopher Ruud, president of Ruud Lighting and United Way Campaign Chair. Thanks to the support of hundreds of companies, organizations and an estimated 10,000 individuals, a projected total of $5,250,000 was raised during this year's United Way campaign efforts throughout Racine County. Re-designed website makes finding afterschool programs easy

United Way of Racine County started the Racine Afterschool website in 2009 as a way to spread the word on safe, structured afterschool programs. Now the site has a new design and a new name, Racine County Afterschool. The new design will make finding afterschool programs even easier and it will now include listings for programs west of I-94. Be part of the solution: Schools of Hope

Schools of Hope is a proven model for improving reading through partnerships and community volunteerism that has been adopted by United Ways across the country. United Way of Racine County is taking the next step in launching a Schools of Hope initiative locally.
Join us at the Golden Rondelle Theater on Thursday, March 1, 2012 at 4:30 p.m. to hear speakers from Schools of Hope programs in different communities including United Way of the Wine Country, Heart of West Michigan United Way and United Way of Dane County.

Youth As Resources funds two new projects

Youth As Resources (YAR) has funded two community service projects totaling $1,906.00. Boy Scout Troop 303 will use their grant to make a storage garage safer and more organized at the Burlington Area School District's school forest, benefiting the more than 750 students and staff who make use of the forest for school projects each year. Boy Scout Troop 334 will create a new playground area at Burlington's Transitional Living Center, ensuring a safe and fun environment for children at TLC.
Youth As Resources offers grants up to $1,000 to groups of youth in Racine County that wish to complete a community service projects addressing a specific community need. Groups from classrooms, schools, clubs, service groups, religious communities, and other nonprofit organizations are encouraged to apply. Grant applications are now being accepted for the February 3, 2012 and March 30, 2012 deadlines. View grant applications and funding guidelines.
Prior to applying for funding, groups are strongly encouraged to attend a free grantwriting workshop to learn more about YAR and the grand process. View workshop dates and registration information for February and March.
