Integrate United Way into your workplace year-round! Try some of these fun ideas:

- Have co-workers bring in their favorite recipies and create a "Recipe for Caring Cookbook" for your business.

- Put together a "How I LIVE UNITED" board in your workplace. Let people put up pictures and stories about how they give back to the community.

2009 Campaign Updates

ChrisADespite a challenging fundraising environment, thanks to the support of more than 300 local companies and thousand of individuals, United Way of Racine County was able to achieve a campaign total of $4.9 million.

Chris Antonneau, President of David Insurance, led this year's campaign with the help of nearly 30 community leaders in his campaign cabinet and nine loaned employees. In addition, hundreds of people volunteered in their workplace campaigns throughout the county.

According to GivingUSA Foundation, donations to the human services sector was down 13 percent in 2008 and that giving was expected to decrease even more in 2009. The fact that Racine County did not experience this drastic decrease is a testament to the resiliency and generosity of the people in our community.

Special thanks to everyone who was involved in the success of the 2009 Campaign! View photos from the 2009 Victory Celebration or check out a slideshow of the 2009 Campaign in review.
Advancing Family Assets
A United Way of Racine County Community Initiative
Advancing Family Assets (AFA) is a new United Way community initiative that provides wrap-around services to eligible low-income families who reside in Racine County to ensure the building blocks for a good life - a quality education that leads to a stable job, enough income to support a family, and good health. The 10-year Racine County Workforce Development plan, Higher Expectations includes six key strategies aimed at developing "a vital, dynamic economy characterized by a workforce that is fully employed." United Way of Racine County was asked to lead the strategy, "to support stronger, more financially stable families."

In January, 2009, the AFA Steering Committee endorsed a six-month startup plan which allowed AFA to begin staffing with the project facilitator on board by February. The first family coaches were secured in spring with the initial AFA family enrolling in April.

The Core Team continued to refine the intake and case management process, program materials, and the detailed evaluation system. Much of the start-up has been spent resolving infrastructure issues of hiring AFA coaches, finding office space, and setting up an internal communications system. AFA staff have also been busy with coach training, numerous community presentations and fund development activities.

In July, the 2009-10 AFA Business Plan was completed, outlining the work and goals for the first implementation year. An annual budget was created and three grants have been submitted. The AFA offices are being set up within Next Generation Now. Two student interns have now joined the AFA work team.

Quarterly reports on AFA participant progress and implementation of the AFA initiative will be made available to the public on an ongoing basis. Contact Kimberly Payne at kpayne@afaracine.org for more information.
