BULLY TIPS
FOR BUILDING CONFIDENCE |

Buzzy says:
As your children try new things, give them support and encouragment so that they will have the courage to explore new opportunities. Be positive and guide with confidence.
Strong effective leaders possess characteristics such as integrity and determination, and they share their successes with others who helpd them to achieve their goals.
Empower your children by giving them oppportunities to take leadership roles. Age-appropriate responsibility can help children feel valued and trusted. | |

Greetings!
Celebrate Earth Day!

Earth Day is April 22, 2011. This is the one day of each year when people of the world spend at least a little time considering their actions and how they relate to the planet we all share. Earth Day is a powerful reminder of our ecological responsibilities and our stewardship of the beautiful blue planet we inhabit.
We are (or should be) aware of the actions we can take to reuse, recycle, and reduce the many products that make our lives easier and more comfortable, but, in quantity, can harm the land, air, and water essential to life. Earth Day is the time to strengthen our commitment to expand your efforts.
|
We invite each of you to consider your own impact on the earth and resolve to do one more act of kindness to preserve and improve the health of our home. We welcome your comments on our facebook page telling us about the changes you've made in honor of Earth Day.
There are many activities going on in and around the Atlanta area. We hope that our readers will participate in some of them. It's a fun way to gather with others to celebrate the Earth! Check our Facebook page for some of Atlanta's events. |

THE ENVIRONMENT NEEDS YOU!
By Jacqueline Cook and Abigail Cook
(Our guest reporters give their thoughts on ways to help the environment.)

Have you ever thought to yourself, "what can I do to save the environment... I'm just a kid!"? Well, if you have then today is your lucky day. The truth is that kids do more to change the world than they get credit for. But, it can seem overwhelming to both kids and adults to think about saving the environment because we just don't know where to start. The best thing you can do is start small and, most importantly, make it fun!
You may have already heard of the three Rs of the environment, but in case you haven't they are "Reduce, Reuse and Recycle." Most people focus on recycling, which is great and very important, but what about reducing and reusing? They are just as important and, if done well, can help your family save money!

FOOD AND PACKAGING CHOICES TO HELP SAVE OUR ENVIRONMENT!
By Jeanne M. Robinson
(Our reporter offers her thoughts on ways to help the environment.)
Have you ever thought that the way you eat can help improve our environment?
Do you eat meat? Do you buy locally grown food and use cloth grocery bags for shopping? These are issues that come under scrutiny in April while we address our environment's problems and how we can improve the health of our planet.
Jeanne Robinson makes a few suggestions for your consideration. You can read her thought-provoking article here. |
CREATIVE FUN WITH YOUR CHILDREN
Want to help your children enhance their imaginations and creativity? Here's a fun link for lots of ideas to use recycled materials.
CREATIVE FUN WITH KIDS
Of course, all you need is some clean items, a glue gun, some tape and string, and you and your children can create your very own "thing."

BOOKS FOR THE SPECIAL CHILDREN
IN YOUR LIFE
|
The Great Kapok Tree
This is a beautifully illustrated book for ages 4-8. It is the story of a man who falls asleep while chopping down a kapok tree. The forest's inhabitants-snakes, butterflies, a jaguar, and finally a child-each whisper in his ear about the terrible consequences of living in 'a world without trees' or beauty, about the interconnectedness of all living things. When the man awakens and sees all the extraordinary creatures around him, he leaves his ax and "walks out of the rain forest."

Dear Children of the Earth

Dear Children of the Earth is a beautiful book for ages 4-12. It begins a remarkable letter from Mother Earth asking for help from children everywhere. She writes to express her love for each and every child and asks for their love and appreciation in return. In her own words, and with all of her heart, Mother Earth enfolds children with love and entrusts them with her protection.

Thank You Volunteers!
It's National Volunteer Week. For this special week everyone celebrates all the wonderful volunteers that share their time, talent, and treasures with non-profit charities. However, at the Children's PEACE Center, we celebrate each and every volunteer each and every day. We cannot exist or function without volunteers. We are a totally volunteer driven organization. This enables us to dedicate all donations and funding for the children's programming.
We thank each one of you who help in whatever way that you can. Every volunteer, from the very youngest that shares "Stop, Think, Peace" with another child; to the very oldest that makes a donation or says "I'm too old to help, but I can tell someone about your wonderful program", we appreciate you!! To all of YOU, please accep t our heartfelt thanks for all that you've done to help spread the news of the Children's PEACE Center and our programs to help children learn to make better choices in life. Whether you've volunteered for an hour or for months, we do so appreciate you. If you'd still like to volunteer, you're certainly welcome to join us. Visit our volunteer page to learn more about volunteer opportunities. May you each be blessed as you are a blessing to others. |

Dear Peace Partner,
Earth Day, April 22nd, is very near and dear to my heart. Besides being the time to honor and celebrate Mother Earth, it just happens to also be the date we celebrate and honor my parent's Anniversary. They've been married over 65 years...now we think that is something to celebrate on this earth. They taught me to love and care for the earth. They taught me about Stewardship which is caring for everything that I have...from friends, family, money, time, talents, health, mind, and spirit as well as this beautiful earth. They taught me that volunteering is one way to give back to our neighbors and help the earth.
In April, I Praise God for a new meaning of Easter's new birth and new life. I am recovering from cancer so I especially appreciate the new life I've been given. In May we celebrate Mother's Day, and in June we celebrate Father's Day so this quarter is filled with celebrations and heartfelt thanks to my parents, my friends and family, all the prayers for my health, and all the wonderful support that I've received. It's a wonderful time to be alive. We are given each new day to celebrate life. Let's honor those around us, and especially to give thanks for our Earth and all creation. Let's make a real effort to care for each other, honor our lives and health, and protect our environment.
Peace,
Andria Melham
