Greetings!
This is the first year we've combined our newsletter with our holiday wishes. Some of you will receive this electronically and some will receive it snail mail. We want to tell you we feel full of appreciation for so many things including having you as a part of our life. Whether we see you face to face or you simply receive our newsletter and announcements, your energy is part of our energy and we are connected. We were asked recently to be part of a Teleseminar on how to handle the stress of the holidays. If you were unable to listen to the call you missed out on some wonderful suggestions. To make it easy for you to receive the benefits of the call we will share our 5 top tips for easing through holiday stress with our wishes that your holidays will go just a bit smoother. Our tips can be used all year long so start them during the holidays and keep them going.
With love and joy all year long,
Julie and Chris

Please Ask Us |
In addition to our suggestions, we have a request. One of the things we want to do more of is to answer your questions. Chris and I both have our areas of expertise and to help you develop your questions we'll remind you of our scope of practice. Chris Kahl is an R.N. who began her career in the cardiac care intensive care unit. After just a few years at this intense level Chris kept saying there has to be a better to reach wellness and approximately 30 years ago began down the path of alternative wellness. Chris is a deep well of information on how the body works physiologically. She is a gifted CranioSacral therapist who often achieves what seems like the impossible in helping her clients with a wide range of physical issues. She is trained in TCM and studied for 4 years with a widely acclaimed acupuncturist. She is an amazing blend of eastern and western philosophies with an incredible range of knowledge and skill. To put it simply you can ask Chris almost anything about your body and she most likely will be able to address your question from a traditional western standpoint or the proven ancient methods of the eastern tradition or the most ancient of all systems, the Hawaiian shamanism known today as Huna. Simply put Chris is an expert with muscular, skeletal, internal and/or external physical issues.
Julie Hawkins trained as a life coach 8 years ago. Finding coaching to be interesting but somewhat limiting, Julie took advanced trainings in NLP (neuro-linguistic programming), hypnosis and Time Line™ Therapy as well as other rapid change techniques. Julie found herself engaged in assisting her clients to make deep and profound breakthroughs. Julie wanted to better understand the body and went on to study the Acutonics Sound Healing System, which emphasizes spiritual healing as well as physical healing. Still thirsting for more knowledge she became a student and teacher of Huna, Hawaiian shamanism. Determined to make clearing away negative emotions and limiting beliefs an easy, painless and quick maneuver, she developed Energy Grid Healing™, which she uses often in her workshops and trainings as well as with her clients. Julie is an expert in communication and understanding how the mind works with the body and spirit. Simply put, ask her most any questions about emotional, mental or spiritual healing. Please send us your questions and if it's ok with you, we'll publish them in our newsletter so all can benefit.

And now our expert tips for Stress-Free Holiday Season. According to a recent study by the American Psychological association nearly 20% of the population use alcohol to deal with stress, 16% smoke and nearly 50% overeat or eat for comfort. That's what these people called stress management News flash: stress management is not UNHEALTHY and it does not have to be difficult. In fact it is best when making change to begin with little tweaks in your routine and build slowly over time so as to NOT cause additional stress. As experts in human behavior below and healthy stress management we want share our tips for getting through the holidays and really to implement as a regular part of your life. TIP 1: Make a list and stick to it. Whether you are holiday gift shopping or grocery shopping, making a list keeps you focused. When you follow your list you achieve your goal and you feel good about it. Gas prices may be down but someone forgot to mention it to the stores and prices are still high there because of the original increase in the price of gas. Tip 1, make a list and stick to it. TIP 2: Create an internal representation of what you want. Your mind does not know the difference between what is imaginary and what is "real" it just "reads" the incoming data and creates an outcome. An IR (internal representation) is one of the fundamental principles of NLP (neuro-linguistic programming) and is key to achieving the kind of results you want during the holidays and in life. An IR is more than just a picture in your mind's eye. An IR consists of an internal picture, feelings, sounds and anything else going on within you. It's you using your imagination or recalling a memory. The more real your unconscious mind thinks the IR is the better the result you'll get. Your unconscious mind is the part of you that actualizes your goals and makes them happen. So if you want to be calm and in control remember a time you were calm and in control, then remember what you saw in your mind's eye, how it felt in your body; was there a relaxing sound and soothing scents? The more real you make it in your imagination the faster and easier it is for you to achieve it. TIP #2: Create an internal representation of what you want and bring in all the senses to make as real seeming as possible to create the outcome you want. TIP 3: Get support. Whether that means a babysitter, a massage, bending a friend's ear, playing golf or taking that workshop you've always wanted to take, do it. Watch for the warning signs that you may be getting in over your head and take action before it can spiral out of control. Financial times can seem scary right about now, but now is NOT the time to buy into the belief of cutting back on investing in you. In fact, now is the best time to invest in you because you are your most important asset. If you don't take care of you, who will? Really, who will do it? Oh and by the way, you are worth it and you deserve it. Tip 3 is watch for the signs and GET Support. Tip 4: Set good boundaries - Limit your time with people and places that stress you out. This may seem obvious but for some reason people almost immediately invoke the feeling of guilt when they hear this. What will people think? What if I'm not doing enough? And to this we say what anyone else thinks of you is none of YOUR business. Here's a simple example of setting appropriate boundaries. If you live in a house with a pool and you have a 3 year old, then you have a fence that protects your child from going someplace that could be dangerous for him or her, right? You also make it clear to your child when he or she can and cannot be near the pool. Yet with a 3-year old you must constantly be reinforcing boundaries to avoid harm. It is about being responsible and taking care of you. Setting a boundary means making a choice that supports what is in your best interest. You wouldn't make the choice to stick your finger in a flame and leave it there would you? No, because it hurts and could cause damage. Boundaries serve the same purpose. Tip # 4 Set good boundaries - Stay away from people and places that stress you out and if you can't do it entirely set a time limit and stick to it. Set boundaries with love and be FIRM. Tip 5: Breathe - it's that simple. Here's our technique - we teach this in our Power of Huna workshop because without breathing, well you die. This particular technique when done for just a few minutes at a time will bring you back to center and calm no matter what the situation. It's called "HA" breathing. It is a 2 to 1 ratio. Breathe in through your nose to a count of 2 and out through your mouth to a count of 4. On the out breath make the HA sound. Here's why the HA sound is important. When you breathe out of your mouth and it is as if you are blowing, like this, the energetic intention is equivalent to blowing something away from you. Think about this for a moment. When you use the HA sound energetically it is as if you are infusing your life force mana, your chi or energy back out into the Universe. You are saying I'm giving back to you what you have given to me - which is life. This simple act brings you back into alignment with the Universe and with yourself. It brings you back to center and brings in calmness. Tip 5 is Ha Breathing Bonus Tip: If it ain't broke don't fix it. At times of increased stress (such as the holidays) don't look for new ways of doing something unless you have the time and patience to tweak it. This will most certainly add more stress instead of reducing it. Bonus Tip: If it ain't broke don't fix it. Start slowly and build.
