Tax Relief for Hurricane Irene Victims
Do you qualify for tax relief?

Whether you were directly or indirectly effected by Hurricane Irene last week, you may qualify for tax relief from the IRS.

Counties that qualify
President Obama has officially declared the following counties as federal disaster areas: Atlantic, Bergen, Burlington, Camden, Cape May, Cumberland, Essex, Gloucester, Hudson, Hunterdon, Mercer, Middlesex, Monmouth, Morris, Ocean, Passaic, Salem, Sussex, Somerset, Union and Warren.

If you live or own in a business in any one of these counties, you may be able to qualify for a tax relief. By being labeled a federal disaster area, the IRS is permitted to postpone certain deadlines for taxpayers in these counties.

Deadlines Extended
If you had previously filed for an extension to file your 2010 tax returns, any deadline falling between 8/27 and 10/31 have now all been postponed until 10/31/11.

Please note, that if you receive a penalty notice from the IRS, you should call them immediately to have any interest or late filing/payment penalties erased.
