From the Desk of the President
We are pleased to welcome you to the 2008-2009 season as a CTF member and thank you for supporting our organization.
As you may have heard, the 300 game and 800 series awards have been designated as "once in a lifetime" awards.  For this season, if you bowl a 300 game or 800 series, you can still order a ring; watch or pendant however, if you bowl another 300 game or 800 series in a subsequent season, you will only have the choice of receiving a semi-precious stone to be inserted into the ring, or a plaque acknowledging your accomplishment.

USBC Youth Open Attracts Canadian Bowlers
USBCYOUTHOPEN
Bowlers from Canada took advantage of the location of the USBC Youth Open in Taylor, Michigan July 7-15.  They were able to participate close to home.

Quoting from a USBC release:
Karlee Cockburn of Chatham, Ontario, experienced her first Youth Open this weekend, while her fellow teammates Jonathan Andal and Daniel Reid of Toronto and Jeffrey Cockburn of Chatham were back for the second consecutive year. When asked what brought the bowlers to the states for their second Youth Open experience, the bowlers cited the competition and difficulty of the tournament.

"We love the competition here," Reid said. "It's exciting to bowl against bowlers from around the U.S. because we don't get to experience that stiff competition as often back home."

"We are here to have a good time and experience the competition, but one of our main reasons for coming is to learn and become better bowlers on the Sport Bowling conditions," Andal said.

Andal had one of the more memorable experiences of the tournament, when he fired a 275 game in his last game of doubles competition on Sunday morning

Other Canadians attending were: Travis Cauley, Hamilton, On, Dakota Faichnie and Darian Rogers-Sysak, Kleinburg, On.

The World Tenpin Bowling Congress passed legislation in 2007 to allow professionals to compete in the world championships and while everyone has been waiting to see the outcome, I believe even the pros were surprised at the level of competition.
