Anglers prefer websites to magazines
What Websites have replaced magazines as the preferred source of angling information, according to a recent survey in the US. Asked which media source they had used most to learn about fishing or for fishing entertainment, 41,9% of anglers opted for websites as compared to the 32.5% who named magazines.
Television was chosen by 15.9% of respondents while newspaper (6.3%) others (2.8%) and radio (0.7%) were the other choices. The result is a reversal of the figures in a similar survey in 2008 in which magazines came out ahead of websites, But in this year's AnglerServey.com poll the popularity of websites increased from 33.6% to 41.9% while magazines fell back from 38.5% to 32.5%.

New "unbreakable" Rod

Sportex unveil new 'unbreakable' rod.

The German specialists have taken technology to new heights to create a groundbreaking rod series for 2010.
Rod innovators Sportex have raised the bar with the creation of the Carat Z, a spinning rod made by combining carbon and a new material zylon to be virtually unbreakable. The carat Z is the latest major advancement from a company that has been at the forefront of rod development for 60 years. No manufacturer has a greater understanding of material or how to combine them to perfection to create rods of outstanding performance. "our innovations include our legendary fibre glass rods and the first carbon fibre rods", says Jan Willenbruch. "Today we are probably the only rod manufacturer in the world working with these plus kavlar fibres, boron fibres and now zylon. Every one of the materials is designed to give fishermen a clear technical advantage."
It is the combination of zylon and carbon that makes the Carat Z such an enticing prospect for 2010. Zylon has outstanding tensile strength while carbon is   particularly strong when flexed. Used together in the Carat Z, they create a rod which is fast and light yet unbreakable in tests.
Adds Jan Willenbruch: "The Carat Z can be bent further than usual carbon rods without braking because of zylon., Yet these new rods are perfectly light and show a fast action, unlike rods with glass composites which tend to be heavy and wobbly." After developing the Cara Z for over two years, Sportex is now ready to release its virtually unbreakable rod onto the market. "This series will be the main focus of our sales campaign, "adds Jan Willenbruch. "It offers a compact number of high end spinning rods from 2.1m to 3.3m in different weight classes.

Cheers and tight lines,
