Offshore limit proposed in Victoria |
Controversy in the Australian tackle trade continues as a limit on the movements of fishing boats on the coastline of Victoria is proposed by the country's Government. The proposal is part of a review of Australia's 1988 Marine Act, which is being carried out by the Victorian Department of Transport. The review will feature a public discussion in which one of the main subjects is "improving Marine Safety in Victoria" - a subject that proposes limiting recreational boats of under eight metres in length to a 20-nautical-mile limit from the port of origin. The proposal will have a big impact on recreational fishing in the area and has subsequently caused unrest among the Australian tackle trade. However all is not lost because you can have your say by submitting your comments on the issue by e-mail to: marineactreview@trasport.vic.gov.au or by post to the following address: Marine Act Review, Department of Transport, GPO Box 2797, Melbourne, VIC 3001.

On of a kind reel proves its worth. |
|
A BRAND-NEW reel unveiled at EFTTEX from German company World Fishing Tackle (WFT) is currently sending waves through the tackle trade. At present, WFT's 2-Speed spin reel is the only product of its kind that allows the user to spin at two different speeds, offering a reel that is adaptable to more situations. WFT's Christian Dibisch explained: "We are very proud of this reel and a lot of people have been very interested in it since we showed it to the trade. "In a recent trip where Team WFT was testing the reel in Söröya, Norway, the reel's performance exceeded many of our expectations. "We were catching cod up to 24kg and, after this performance, we feel the reel will certainly make a lot of fishermen rethink about returning to a spinning reel, even in waters more than 100 metres deep."Apart from the obvious benefit of being able to adjust the gear ratio of the reel from 2.8:1 to 4.8:1 at the touch of a button, the reel have various other attributes. It features a solid anodised aluminium frame, rotor and spool, a stainless-steel 2-speed ge4ar, strong waterproof drag system, permanent infinite anti reverse and a CNC machined handle arm.
