October News 2009
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
First and foremost Breakaway would like to extend a heartfelt  thanks to our loyal supporters. Thanks to you, we were voted the #1 BEST bike shop in all of Philadelphia. As you can see, we were voted amongst the top-5 in all of Southeastern Pennsylvania.
Speaking of reasons to be proud: Congratulations must be give to Breakaway's road racing team, QCW/Breakaway. In a contest that came down to the final time trial of the season, QCW finished a strong second out of over 17 teams in the large team competition. In addition to this, the team collected 8 top-5 medals in the individual categories, more than any other team. Now that we sport a fast-growing contingent of strong, talented junior and women racers who will race for the team for the whole season (in just a few late-season races, our juniors and women landed over a dozen top-10s) next year,  QCW has to be the odds-on favorite for  the 2010 BAR.  But let's not yet forget about 2009 just yet. We are especially proud of the 2009 Men's Category 3/4 Best All Around Rider, Sean Whiteman. Sean went from a category 5 neophyte to category 2 and podium finisher in the final pro/1/2/3 time trial this year. To see how much Sean contributed to the team effort, click here. And it's no surprise that Sean's pre-season training regime for next year, just as it did this past year,  will once again include RPM.  QCW/Breakaway has an open membership policy, if you are interested in racing road or cross in 2010
Speaking of RPM, it's not too late to sign up! Classes just finished their first week, but there are 11 more weeks of training and comraderie to go. Whether your goal is a similarly precipitous upgrade or just increase your general fitness, RPM will meet your needs. Each workout is individually tailored to your specific level of fitness, and each week you'll be able to see tangible evidence of your improvement.
And if you're a college student, you're reading this just in time. In just a few days, Breakaway will be witnessing the return of Collegiate RPM, a 1-hour , biweekly class tailor made to suit the aspiring collegiate racer or the even the young stagiare who needs to do some cat-A races to get tuned up for amazing things for the big leagues in 2010. Sign up here. And, to demonstrate our continued commitment to the development of young riders and collegiate racing, Breakaway will be sponsoring UPenn and Temple again in 2010. Collegiate riders and those affiliated with those teams receive a special in store discount, as well as a great deal on RPM. Inquire within or email us at info@breakawaybikes.com. The 5:00 p.m. Monday-Wednesday classes run 8 weeks and start October 19th. Also n.b. if you've got a night class, you can shower and be back in University city by 6:15. We know, because we've got one too.
Breakaway may be known for sponsoring several wildly successfiul cycling teams, but it's not  just great bike-racers we support. We have also just founded a triathlon team. And you thought tris were an individual thing? Not hardly. Thus, we are proud to announce the first team meeting for the Breakaway Bikes Triathlon team!  Being the first BTT meeting, the topics will be informational and should give you a concise overview of the new club and what to expect from it.  In addition, it will be a fantastic opportunity to meet your new teammates and to get acquainted with your primary sponsor, Breakaway Bikes & Fitness.  I hope everyone can make it and comes with their questions!
swapmeet sale
This past Saturday was the bi-annual swap meet at the Lehigh Valley Velodrome, and the deals were out of this world good. And as a special treat, for a very limited time, Breakaway will be holding our bikes, apparel, and equipment at SWAP MEET PRICES! That's right, it's a Post-Swap-Meet-Swap-Meet-Sale. 2009 Bikes will be marked down up to 25%. Also get huge discounts on helmets, shoes, and clothes. Be sure to come in and check out of $30 and $50 clothing racks full of great bargains. Just mention this newsletter to receive special prices. Or better yet, bring in a friend and get them to sign up for our newsletter. Just come in soon, because these deals are too good to sustain for much longer.
Speaking of great deals, our fleet of Fuji Absolute 3.0 Rental bikes, each just built in May and ridden lightly be the few odd tourists, is now for sale--at 40% off! That's right, you get a $500 bike, newly built this past May and mostly only ridden by the occasional tourist or visiting relative around the Schuykill River Trail for three hundred dollars! Each bike is in great working order, having been tuned up each time before it would leave our store for a ride. But hurry in today to score one, as the entire fleet of 20 bikes was snatched up in a manner of thirty days last year, and now that the word is out, they've already started being picked off.
Finally, we'd like to thank everyone that made the Hillbilly Hustle v.4 the best yet. It is truly wonderful how the Greater Philly area cycling community has supported this annual event. Next year, with your support, we promise to bring it back, bigger and better than ever. Thanks.
Remember to keep on riding, and come to us for all your biking and fitness related needs! Thanks for reading.  Oh yeah and Go Phils!
