Summer News 2009 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ |
Don't look now, but the summer is quickly approaching its end. Soon the days will shorten, the leaves will change, students will again fill the halls, and you'll be switching that grill to a bonfire. To usher in the fall in our own special way, we intend to trade those home-brewed summer ales for home-brewed Oktoberfests. Never one to fall behind the times, Breakaway has updated its web presence. Click above or here to see our newly redesigned webpage. Our special order catalogue hasn't changed. So you can still browse all our great deals on our homepage, right from the comfort of your own home. You can also now follow us on Twitter! It's free to join and follow our tweets and you'll be the first to find out everything that's going on, including where to find Breakaway athletes, the latest in products, and sales and specials we're having at the store. No matter what your plans are as this year's road racing season winds to a close, Breakaway has what you need. Some of us are looking forward to a couple of months off the bike, resting and recovering. If that's your plan, make sure you do it right, using compression clothing from 2XU. 2XU's 360 degree compression improves circulation, helps repair soft muscle tissue damage, and reduces muscle fatigue during everyday activities. You can learn more about compression from 2XU's website, or just ask Breakaway's coaches, dedicated adherents to recovering properly. So whether you're sleeping, traveling, or just catching your breath in between Ironmans, road and cross season, or your kids' soccer games, donning 2XU compression clothing makes the experience much more comfortable. Tights, ctops, and calf guards are all available now at Breakaway. You will surely need that compression wear as you gear right back up for our Fall RPM Classes, beginning in October. This year we rolled back prices so that you don't have to give up your favorite past time to keep those savings growing. Register early (before September 25th) and you will be paying the same price that class was when we started the program over 10 years ago. Click here to register now.
Having received emails from RPM classmembers well after midnight only to see their vibrant faces at 6:00am the next morning more ready to ride than ever, we know some folks never tire. What do we call these supermen and superwomen who never stop? Triathletes. And guess what, all you triathletes (and runners), you can now take advantage of a FREE coached track workout every Wednesday. These are absolutely free structured workouts in a small class setting with multiple coaches. The classes meet at Franklin Field (UPenn) at 5:30 p.m., every Wednesday. E-mail Joe or Todd for more information.
Finally, for many of you, we know separating you from a saddle is like tearing a Dunkin-Donuts Reduced Fat Blueberry Muffin away from a hungry climber-- though it often needs to be done. Rather than transitioning from the pave to the couch, you've swapped your slicks for knobbies, your spandex for baggies, and are now shredding up the singletrack. And the 2010 line from Giant has arrived just in time to make that transition more enjoyable. Our staff's favorite new mountain machine is the 2010 Giant XTC 29er, featuring Deore XT components, a beefy hydroformed downtube and of course big, deep section 700c wheels. Joe and Jay have already joined the big wheel revolution, and you can pick one up as well. Just swing by the store to check one out. Click on the image to see this awesome bike in all its big-wheeled glory as well as other 29ers you can get from Breakaway.

Also new from Giant 2010 is an all new full carbon time trial bike, the Trinity Advanced, billed as the "World's Fastest Bike". Glenn and Joe both got a chance to demo this bike whiles at Giant's 2010 Top Dealer Conference, "The Link". After getting a chance to ride this uber-machine, Joe had this to say: "The bike roade extremely well. I can't believe how it handled the descents, and on only a set of training wheels, the bike really felt slippery in the wind." Breakaway customers will be seeing a couple of these bikes in the store by October. In the meantime, check out this promotional video to learn all about it. To see it or pre-order it for October Delivery click the bike picture below. Be the first to ride the worlds fastest bike.
Speaking of things that pass you by very quickly, it seems as though one of our mechanics, Andrew, will be departing in just under a month for an academic sojourn in Japan. He will return at the end of the semester, but his presence will be missed. He also invites you to let him know just how much his presence will be missed by donating to his "feed Andrew in Japan" fund. We at
the shop suspect by "feed Andrew" he means "send Andrew to drink sake at every
karaoke bar he can find," but if you're more trusting than we(I
think Andrew would appreciate a good response. So, how about mentioning
something worthwhile he would like to accomplish in Japan?), by all means e-mail Andrew at Andrew@breakawaybikes.com for more details.
Finally, There is some HUGE news coming out of a joint venture between Breakwaway, Fuji Bicycle Corporation, and Temple University, that may well change the makeup of this entire city. Do please keep an eye out for a special edition newsletter coming out in the next couple of weeks with all the details. In the meantime you can learn a little about it here.
