Our Mission Statement
The mission of the Tuscarawas County Chamber of Commerce is the formation of strategic partnerships to advance the
economic, educational, civic and cultural prosperity of Tuscarawas County.
Hello Tuscarawas County,
Jill head shot
It's August!  If I had a nickel for every time I heard that statement in the past 12 days I would not need to ask for sponsorships for any of our 2011 events.  Most of our summer vacations are documented in our photo albums on facebook and most of the summer is in the rear view mirror.  School openings are quickly approaching as is the November election.  Friday Night Lights will once again be happening all across Tuscarawas County and beyond.
In May and June we held two of our largest events in 2010.  May 14 was the B2B Expo and June 23 was our annual summer golf outing.  I would like to thank all of the volunteers who helped with these events.  Both were successful events and we look forward to next year.
Within the next few months I will be gathering a team of approximately 30 to 40 volunteers to assist with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Accreditation process.  Your Tuscarawas County Chamber of Commerce has been an accredited Chamber of Commerce for over 30 years.  An accomplishment that only a hand full of chambers attempt.  If you are interested in becoming part of the team please contact me at jillm@tuschamber.com.  This is your chance to learn about the Chamber and get involved with your community.
As always, my door remains open to you.  Please stop in and say hi and pick up a membership directory or copies of our last couple or Visions magazines.  They are great for waiting rooms/areas for any area businesses or send them to friends and family that have moved away.
As Autumn approaches let's keep supporting our local businesses and members of the Tuscarawas County Chamber of Commerce.

Thank you,

Jill R. McCartney, IOM, CCEO-AP

Project HIRE
Ohio Department of Development

Project HIRE (Project Hometown Investment in Regional Economies) is a state initiated program designed to help connect employers who have current job openings with dislocated workers who may have, or are close to having, the necessary skill sets to fill those positions. Under this program, Ohio Learning Accounts (OLAs) of up to $6,000 are awarded to qualifying dislocated workers and their new employers to help defray the cost of classroom instruction and/or partial wage re-imbursement during the worker's on-the-job training. For more information regarding OLAs and program requirements, please contact Marge Artman, Business Service Representative, Workforce and Talent Division, Ohio Department of Development, 2146 Southgate Parkway, Cambridge, Ohio 43725.  Phone number for Marge is 740.258.8623.  E-mail is      Marge.Artman@development.ohio.gov

Building Bridges to Improve Student Success

Improving college and career readiness for students is a topic of utmost importance among education professionals.  The Obama Administration gave the issue even more prominence this year when it said that every U.S. high school student should be making plans to either attend college or pursue at least one year of career-specific job training.  At New Philadelphia, we want to provide our teachers every opportunity to ensure that students are equipped with the skills and abilities necessary to succeed in college and their career.

On October 15, New Philadelphia Middle and High School Teachers will be available to tour businesses around the area for the purpose of understanding the expectations of employers and ways in which teachers may become involved to help stimulate economic growth and security of our community.

If your company would be willing to give a group of about 10 middle or high school teachers a tour of your business, please give Deb Kennedy, Assistant Superintendent, a call at 330-364-0600.
