Graduation Words of Wisdom
By: Charles Gallagher

College seniors across the country ended their studies and celebrated graduation with words of wisdom from a variety of notable commencement speakers.  Here are some of the more poignant messages delivered to seniors at commencements.

Steve Jobs, Stanford University

Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven't found it yet, keep looking....Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life.

Ellen DeGeneres, Tulane University

Follow your passion, stay true to yourself, never follow someone else's path unless you're in the woods and you're lost and you see a path then by all means you should follow that. Life is like a one big Mardi Gras but instead of showing your boobs show people your brain and if they like what they see you'll have more beads than you'll know what do with.

Ken Burns, Case Western Reserve University

Serve your country. . . . Convince your government that the real threat comes from within, just as Abraham Lincoln said. Governments always forget that. Insist that we support science and the arts, especially the arts. They have absolutely nothing to do with the defense of the country-they only make our country worth defending.

Michel Dell, University of Texas

With the understanding that you will face tough times and amazing experiences, you must also commit to the adventure. Just have faith in the skills and the knowledge you've been blessed with and go. Because regrets are born of paths never taken.

You too have an advantage that you're not encumbered by years of conventional thinking. You have a new and fresh perspective with which to view the world. Your time at this great university has helped sharpen your sense of discovery, and there is no better catalyst for success than curiosity.

Judicial Candidate Profile              By Alison Parker

Tom Rams

Tom Ramsberger, a local attorney, is running for the Sixth Judicial Circuit Court, Group 20. A St. Petersburg native, Tom now raises his three daughters with his wife in the city in which he spent his own childhood.

Love for the law runs in the Ramsberger family. Tom has a twin brother, Tim, who is also an attorney. Their older brother, Peter, is a local judge. Tom, a 22-year-member of the Florida Bar, is also a certified mediator and adjunct professor at Stetson University College of Law.

Mr. Ramsberger has always seen civic involvement as essential element of his adult life, and now wants to serve the community in an official capacity. He believes that before you adequately serve the needs of your constituents and those in your courtroom, you must acquaint yourself with them in their own environments. His longstanding work with Community Law Program and CASA are just two examples of how Tom aims to serve the community. He also is on the All Children's Hospital Foundation Board, a charter member of the St. Petersburg Bar Foundation, and regularly enjoys active with his children's school's PTA meetings.

Tom's experience as a mediator helped him hone his sense of neutrality and observing legal issues from a third-party standpoint. His commitment to professionalism and public service make him a natural choice for the Sixth Circuit, Group 20.

North Korea at World Cup
By: Erika Mariz

This has certainly been and still is an interesting World Cup. There has been plenty of controversy surrounding the referee's abilities (or lack thereof) and the use of technology in the game, but the teams themselves have been captivating, especially North Korea. Their team has been shrouded by mystery. Prior to the Cup, not much was known about the team as the North Koreans refused to release much information about their team. During their play at the World Cup, many interesting stories finally emerged.

First of all, the North Korean team has not been able to afford private training facilities in South Africa unlike other teams competing in the World Cup. Instead, North Korean players exercised at a public gym for strength training.

Secondly, it has been reported that North Korean supreme leader Kim Jong-Il gave the national team in depth guidance on how to play. The North Korean coach claimed he received regular tactical advice during matches using mobile phones that are not visible to the naked eye, which were supposedly invented by Kim Jong-Il. However, with that said, Kim Jong-Il also claimed that he invented the hamburger in 2004.

Lastly, it was surprising to see a good number of North Korean fans in the stadium during North Korean's opening match against Brazil considering that very few citizens are allowed to leave North Korean and even if they were, few could afford to attend the games. A month before the World Cup, according to Xinhua, the official Chinese news agency, 1,000 Chinese citizens were "rented" by the North Korean government to wear the North Korean colors and sit in the stands to cheer on the North Korean team. The North Korean government gave tickets to Chinese citizens, many of whom were actors and singers. Additional tickets were sold to Chinese nationals willing to support the North Korean team.

Although North Korea is now out of the World Cup, I certainly look forward to hearing what comes next for their team and if Kim Jong-Il will change his tactical advice for the players to qualify for the next World Cup.

At the Movies
By: Alison Parker

According to various unscientific calculations, there are as few as six operational drive-in cinema left in Florida; we here in Tampa Bay are fortunate enough to be within an hour's drive (depending on where you live in Tampa Bay) from four of those theaters. Visiting one of these cinematic time machines is not just a venue for nostalgic fun; the a drive-in makes for a cheap night out - the admission for an adult to a drive-in is almost always $5 or less, which is palatable for those with strict entertainment budgets.

Recently, I attended a double feature at the Ruskin Family Drive-In. I go every summer at least once, and always have a great time. At the Ruskin venue, your admission (per person) allows you to view both of that night's films. There really are fewer experiences as satisfyingly retro as enjoying a full-length feature film from the relative comfort of your automobile.

Fannie Mae Delisted from NYSE

Federal regulators' decision week to remove shares of Fannie Mae (FNM) and Freddie Mac (FRE) from the New York Stock Exchange marks a fundamental change for the two mortgage agencies now operating under conservatorship.

The conservator, the Federal Housing Finance Agency, said the move was a result of both companies trading around $1 for more than 30 days. Freddie was recently down 40% at 73 cents, while Fannie traded 38% lower at 57 cents.

The government took over the nominally independent mortgage finance companies at the height of the credit crisis in September 2008. Since then, while many plans for reform and restructuring have been discussed, there is no clear plan on how to get them out of government protection.

Citi Halts Gulf Coast Foreclosures

Citigroup Inc., the recipient of a $45 billion taxpayer bailout, will suspend foreclosures in coastal areas hit by the BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.

The three-month foreclosure moratorium will apply to loans owned by the bank's mortgage unit, not debt that Citigroup services for other lenders or investors.  Homeowners within about 25 miles of the coast will be covered and evictions will be halted if properties have already been seized.

Following suit, Fannie Mae, the government-supported mortgage company, reminded the companies that manage its loans that they can immediately suspend or reduce payments for borrowers for at least three months given the loss of income occasioned by the oil spill.

Citigroup's move will protect about 1,200 homeowners.
