Florida Bar Mandates Attorney Dress Code
In an effort to increase attorney professionalism and courtroom decorum, the Florida Bar has adopted a dress code for both male and female attorneys.
The dress code will become effective on January 1, 2010. The new dress code mandates: "Gentlemen shall wear navy blue or back suits, white or blue dress shirts and red or yellow ties. Black dress shoes and black belts (or suspenders) are required." The attire of women is similarly strict, "Black or navy suits (pant suits or skits), white, pink, yellow or blue blouses, and back shoes." Compliance with the dress code is required both in court and in the office.
Presently, the dress code rules do not include any sanctions for non-compliance. |
NCAA Cracks Downs on Offensive Mascots
At the NCAA Annual Meetings in Kansas City, Mo, the Mascot Committee of the NCAA decided to crack down on the insensitive use of college mascots.
Hank Hughes, the Chair of the Committee targeted a number of school, including the Florida Gators, Michigan Wolverines, California Bears, UCLA Bruins, Boston College Eagles, Texas Longhorns, Minnesota Badgers and Boston University Terriers. Hughes stated that the committee felt that such majestic creatures as bears, alligators, eagles and cattle should not be marginalized on the sidelines of stadiums throughout the US. He stated, "Who is to speak for the defenseless gator, or badger or dog."
Each of the targeted schools will be allowed to appeal the ruling or agree to immediate compliance. Hughes went on to say that the colleges of America have no place is the disenfranchisement of these glorious animals. It is unknown how many schools will appeal the rulings. |

USPS Announces Modified Mail Delivery
After requests from the United States Postal Service that Congress lift the current requirement that mail be delivered six days out of the week, the USPS has announced a modified mail delivery schedule as a result of budget shortfalls and reduced usage of the mail system.
Effective June 1, 2009, the USPS will deliver Mail on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
Where there had been talk of reducing the delivery to a five day week, the Postal Service felt that a three day schedule would permit the least strain on the mail service. |
Harvest Bank to Charge Teller Fees
Harvest National Bank, N.A. will soon begin charging a $5.00 fee to customers who visit a live teller. Harvest, a small chain in the midwest states, felt that the fees are necessary in order to provide, "professional, caring and superior customer service."
With the popularity of Internet banking and automated services, banks have reduced their number of tellers. In line with the airlines, who have opted to charge for additional services such as baggage and priority seating, Harvest saw the need to cover the cost of tellers.
The good news for customers is that they will only have to pay one fee for each visit, irrespective of the number of transactions completed. |
Internet Spring Cleaning
If you rely upon the Internet for communication or work, plan accordingly the Internet would be shut down for massive repairs, re-formatting and cleaning from April 24-April 25, 2009. The Internet will again be active on April 26, 2009.
Based upon the continuous use of the Internet for email, research and shopping, it has become necessary to clear out the excess of cashed information and data that had accumulated in the network over the years.
Dead email and inactive ftp, www, and gopher sites would be purged. Five very powerful Japanese-built Internet-crawling mega-servers (Toshiba AQSA-2274) situated around the world will do this work.
During this period, users are directed to disconnect all devices from the Internet, including PDA's, Blackberry's, email based phones, laptops, and desktops. | |
