Legal Resolutions for the New Year

While everyone is resolving to work out a little more, spend less time at the office, or to stop smoking, its also time to make some legal resolutions for the new year.

1.  Designate a Health Care Surrogate.

Its quick, its easy and resolves many problems in the event that you cannot make informed decisions about your own health care.

2.  Make a Will.

Do you want the government to divide up your assets in the event of  your death?  Well that is what happens when you pass away without a will.  Making a will is not that difficult and will resolve many issues with regard to the passing of your property.

3.  Check Your Credit Reports.

In this climate of identity theft and the dissemination of personal credit information, it is imperative to ensure that this private information is not being misused.  For a nominal fee, sites like myfico.com, lifelock.com or freecreditreport.com offer a review of all three credit reporting companies reports.

4.  Change Your Passwords.

If you utilize e-banking or internet shopping its a good idea to periodically change your passwords.  Also, the most secure passwords include a combination of both letters and numbers.

5.  Re-Evaluate Your Insurance Needs.

Ensure that the values of the property insured are commensurate with your insurance coverage.  Also, many policies require that you specifically list or "schedule" newly acquired items of personal property, such as jewelry, china or artwork.  Finally, ensure that you have an accurate inventory of the contents of your home and/or a video of the condition of the interior of your home, which shows electronics, china or other items you value.

While it might be a little more difficult to keep traditional new year's resolutions, consider making a few legal new years resolutions.
G&A Holiday Party

Party 1

On Wednesday December 3 we hosted our annual holiday party.  Over 60 guests joined us to celebrate the holiday festivities.  The party also featured the unveiling of our outdoor bar and party deck.  We will be having more frequent events now that we can accommodate more guests.  Thanks to all those who were able to join us for the party.
Fannie Mae & Freddie Mac Halt Foreclosures
In a dramatic move lenders Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac suspended all foreclosures of occupied homes from November 26-January 9 in hopes of giving borrowers more time for loan workouts.  This move comes after government regulators and lawmakers have attempted to exert greater influence over the two troubled lenders. Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac own or control about half of residential mortgages in the United States.  In related news many lenders have ceased foreclosures on properties where innocent tenants occupy the properties and tender their monthly rent to the defaulting owner/landlord.
New Attorneys Join G&A

In November, Pye Young joined the firm as an associate attorney.  Pye is a graduate of Florida State University and Stetson University College of Law.  Pye has experience clerking at a local area firm where her practice included real estate litigation and commercial litigation.
In December, Erika Mariz joined the firm as an associate attorney.  Erika is an honors graduate of University of South Florida and Stetson University College of Law.  Erika was previously an associate at a Clearwater real estate and probate law firm.

We are very excited about these two new members of our team.  We are already impressed with both of them.
Economic Impact of Super Bowl

Super Bowl XLIII is right around the corner as preparations in the bay area are currently underway.  But what can we expect in the way of an economic impact on the bay area?

From a consumer standpoint, tickets range from $2,410 to $7,273.  Thousands of fans will descend on the bay area, stay in our hotels, dine at our restaurants and otherwise enjoy the sun and sand.

From a marco standpoint, what can a host city expect in the way of an economic impact.  In "The Billion Dollar Game: Behind the Scenes of the Greatest Day in American Sport"  Allen St. John analyzes just that question.

Last year's Giants-Patriots was held in Phoenix, Arizona.  An Arizona State University study estimated the economic impact of Super Bowl XLII on the Phoenix area at a record $500.6 million.  NFL figures are a bit more conservative at $400 million.

In either event, the bay area can expect an (albeit brief) economic stimulus from the Super Bowl.
Happy New Year

From all of us, to all of  you, best wishes for a happy and healthy 2009!

We hope that 2009
will mark many personal and professional successes in your lives.

We value our relationships
with you and thank you for your friendship.
