Greetings!
I'm crunched for time on getting this newsletter out, so let's skip the chit chat and get right down to business...

Say "Hello" to New Members
Hello to all;
My partner, Carolyn Wishon and I have been together for over 8 years and built our home in Toledo, Oregon. We have two medium sized dogs, and two cats, one is 17 years old. Carolyn has lived in the area all of her life and I moved here in 1997, from Spokane, although, I am a Montana native.
I worked for the Siletz tribe for 10 years in child welfare and then as a police officer. For the last two years we have established a business called, Bear Dance Innovations, LLC. And have provided services in; personal safety and security training, citizen handgun safety courses for concealed weapons permits, & installed video security systems. Starting the business was timed with my having a knee injury and our police department closing down.
Carolyn occasionally helps fillet fish for a sports fishing company in Newport. She is the outdoors type, and has a large extended family in the area including a daughter, son-in-law and two grand-daughters. My daughter also resides in Toledo with her boyfriend and my grandson.
During the last two years, I have written 2 ½ books. One of the books was recently published on Amazon.com titled: 'Away Games.' The website for the book is; www.beardancebooks.com The book is a fiction, relative to LGBT groups. I have a second book completed that needs further editing and I'm currently writing 'Away Games II'.
Both Carolyn and I hope to reach out to a Lesbian community to get to know others and to expand our circle of friends. We enjoy a card game called Tripoley, (sp) and enjoy cookouts. We are both over 21, Carolyn is in her late 40's and I'm 50, something. We're looking forward to meeting everyone!

Doubt: A Parable
The 2005 Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize, don't miss the Eugene debut of one of the most praised American plays of the last 50 years!
By John Patrick Shanley
September 26-October 18
Playing at Lord Leebrick in Eugene When a stern nun's suspicions are weighed against the word of a well-liked priest, how does one determine the truth? "I have not the slightest proof of anything, but I have my certainty," states Sister Aloysius.
A compelling parable for our times on the dangers of accusation, spin, and moral certainty, there's a good reason this play is called "the richest and most talked about piece of theatre in years."
"A gripping mystery, tightly written." - Time Out

Celebrate the Jewish New Year - Gathering of Jewish lesbians, Honorary lesbians, and Friends of Jewish lesbians, to celebrate the Jewish New Year. Monday, September 29th at 6pm. We will gather for the ritual of "tashlich" -- tossing of bread crumbs into moving water, symbolically letting go of the past year and welcoming the in-flowing of the new. The river is the Willamette, the spot is next to OMSI. Going south on SE Water Street, turn into the parking lot just past the huge, red OMSI sign. Go diagonally to the back corner of the lot, next to the river. Look for signs. Then, at 7:00, bring something to share for a POTLUCK dinner at my house. I'll supply challah, honey, apples, and wine. Please RSVP and I will send you my address. pdxlesbiannet@yahoo.com |

Wine Tasting Social - Open to Everyone
Saturday, October 18th @ 7:00pm. I am a wine consultant, and I am launching an in-home event hosting and wine seminar business for the Salem area, and I wanted to share this with everyone at the same time we hosted this evening. I teach tasting techniques, wine and food pairing, and wine etiquette. My seminars are fun, informal, and are geared toward novices, but still entertaining for more seasoned wine lovers, and only last about an hour, so the rest of the evening will just be sharing wine and company. We will provide all of the wine, glassware, and food for the evening, so we are asking that attendees bring a $5 donation to help with the cost. We hope it will be a really fun and different event to share with all of the Lavender Womyn, but we also want everyone to know that this is open to both genders, and they should bring any of their friends that would like to come as well. Because we will be purchasing wine beforehand, we would like for people to RSVP, to my email: jax.devine@gmail.com We are limited to 45 people, so please do not RSVP unless you plan on attending. We were thinking of making this an adult-only evening, but understand that sometimes you just don't have a sitter lined up. So, only because our house isn't the largest around, very well-behaved children are welcome, with the understanding that the evening is basically going to revolve around drinking wine.

Vote Equality
Last week Oregonians joined together to donate almost $3,000 to help our friends and family in California defend marriage equality at the ballot. We got an email today from Shannon Minter, the attorney who argued the marriage case before the California Supreme Court:
"I was so blown away to see that Basic Rights Oregon is raising money for No on 8. That means the world to us. We are so close; you guys may just be the ones putting us over the top to win. Will you please let everyone in BRO know how much we appreciate this support?"
If you haven't already joined this historic effort, you can do so at Vote No on Prop 8. While we keep our eye on California, our most important work in the upcoming November 4th election is right here in Oregon.
Now it's time to turn our spotlight on a few local campaigns where we have a chance to elect lawmakers who will move us further down path toward full equality.
