Greetings!
I hope you have had a great couple of weeks. Kathy and I enjoyed a great vacation traveling around in Idaho, Utah, Colorado and Arizona. We traveled over 3800 miles in 10 days! Whew! It was a much enjoyable trip with great weather and amazing natural beauty. Our most favorite waterfall has now become the Calf Creek Falls in Utah. Not a pretty name, but it is a beautiful place. It's a 6 mile round trip hike to a 126' waterfall which cascades down into a swimming pool of icy cold water, and a soft sandy bottom with huge rock walls and trees surrounding you. It's just incredible! I told Kathy I want to build our next home there.
Before we left on our trip, Lavender Womyn had their 5th anniversary celebration. We had around 40 women come and celebrate the day with us. It still amazes me that we have been around for 5 years and still continue to grow with new women joining every week. That keeps us fresh and we see new faces at every event.
OUR NEXT EVENT will be Bunco on October 19th.
Rita and Paula have graciously offered up their home to host this popular, fun event right here in West Salem. You can click here to find out more about this event.

Lesbian Activist Del Martin dies at 87
Del Martin died an honest woman.
After five decades of living in sin, of shacking up, of living outside the bonds of marriage, she finally wed the love of her life just two months before she died.
Did she have some sort of moral awakening? No, the California Supreme Court did.
When the court legalized same-sex marriage, Martin, 87, married her female partner, Phyllis Lyon, 83. The two had been a couple longer than Sears and Roebuck.

AIDS Walk in Portland
Goals for our 22nd Annual AIDS Walk Portland range from generating greater community participation, activism, advocacy and education about HIV/AIDS, to increasing funding for vital services in our community. We need your energy, your participation and your presence to draw attention to how this critical issue affects every member of our community. Our vision is to utilize grassroots organizing by training and mobilizing a strong community effort in Oregon and Southwest Washington. Please join us to take a stand for HIV/AIDS activism. On October 12th, more than 10,000 of us will come together in Pioneer Courthouse Square with the goal of raising $350,000 for services provided by Cascade AIDS Project to prevent new HIV infections, care for people affected and infected by HIV/AIDS, educate communities to eliminate stigma and shame and advocate for immediate action in combating the pandemic. 911 Flag Flying
Please join us in this FLY THE FLAG campaign. We have a little less than one week and counting to get the word out all across this great land and into every community in the United States of America.
THE PROGRAM IS THIS:
On September 11th, an American flag should be displayed outside every home, apartment, office, and store in the United States. According to SNOPES; The flag should be flown at half mast or with a black ribbon attached to the top. Every individual should make it their duty to display an American flag on this anniversary of our country's worst tragedy. We do this in honor of those who lost their lives on 9/11, their families, friends and loved ones who continue to endure the pain, and those who today are fighting at home and abroad to preserve our cherished freedoms.
In the days, weeks and months following 9/11, our country was bathed in American flags as citizens mourned the incredible losses and stood shoulder-to-shoulder against terrorism. Sadly, those flags have all but disappeared. Our patriotism pulled us through some tough times and it shouldn't take another attack to galvanize us in solidarity. Our American flag is the fabric of our country and together we can prevail over terrorism of all kinds.

Gay Marriage in Oregon? Tribe says YES!
COOS BAY -- Kitzen and Jeni Branting have been in a committed lesbian relationship since high school and plan to get legally married in Oregon next spring. Yes, in Oregon.
True, voters amended the state Constitution constitution in 2004 to allow marriage only between only a man and a woman. And Congress outlawed gay marriage more than a decade ago.
But Kitzen Branting, 25, is a member of the Coquille Indian Tribe on the southern Oregon coast. As a federally recognized sovereign nation, the tribe is not bound by the Oregon's Constitution. The tribe recently adopted a law that recognizes same-sex marriage and extends to gay and lesbian partners, at least one of whom must be a Coquille, all tribal benefits of marriage.
If you live in rural Oregon and you support the Tribe's decision, please consider sending a note of support to the Tribal Council. Letters can be sent to:
Coquille Indian Tribe P.O. Box 783 3050 Tremont North Bend, OR 97459
