Greetings!
I have not heard, yet, how Portland PRIDE turned out this year, but at least the weather was nice. Kathy and I took advantage of the nice weekend and went to see Trestle Creek Falls on Sunday. This was a great first falls to visit to get our summer started. It was a moderately challenging 1.5 mile hike to the upper falls where you can get up behind it (photo above). I'm sitting at around 25 feet from the top of the falls, with about 75 feet of the falls below me. The falls plunges and horsetails down a total of about 100 feet. Once you hike to the upper falls, you can continue around about another mile to the lower falls, but we'll have to explore that one another day since we ran out of time. It felt great to get out into nature and know that this is just the start of exploring many great falls this summer. As many of you know about the health issues I went through last year, I have to tell you that it felt great to be able to physically do this hike and feel like...I am back!!
Update on Journeys House: I want to thank those of you who took the time to sign JOURNEYS petition. Their hearing was on Monday, and it did not go well. The Mayor and City Council denied JOURNEYS request to use the historical house on Hood Street as a business. You can watch the hearing by going to: http://www.cctvsalem.org/streaming/city-of-salem.php and selecting the date of June 16th. The hearing is about 1:45 hours. If there is anything you can do to help them fight this, let me know and I will get you in touch with Lisa and Torrii. I don't believe this is over, yet. We just need to find the correct door to walk through. To find out more about JOURNEYS, visit their MySpace at: http://www.myspace.com/urjourney

New Lavender Womyn Member
After 5 years of existence, we still have new members who continue to join us weekly, and once in awhile we have someone who is willing to introduce themselves. So, say "hello" to Marita. Here's what she has to share about herself...
"I am a very young 67 and have an endless source of energy which allows me to pursue many activities, including dancing, hiking, gardening, beach-combing, camping, participating in a band, learning to play a bass guitar, movies, music, and the list goes on and on. I have returned to my roots of Oregon, having lived in the Salem area until 1967. My two sisters and one brother are here and I'm very blessed to have their support in moving back "home". I have two grown daughters, am pet free, never smoked (anything) and am considered to be a fastidious, active, somewhat reserved, retiree. My favorite pasttime is playing a full set of drums. I left my music partner in Bellingham, so have no one at the present to make music with. Even though I'm still getting settled, having moved to McMinnville just a month ago, I still find time for fun and whatever occasionally gets me away from work." Click here to say "Hello" to Marita |

Aby Cat Needs Home
There is an Abyssinian kitty in Portland who needs a home. Sidney is 8 years old. He is curious, smart, mischievous, and extremely loving. He follows people around, helps them read, chatters to them, uses them as furniture, keeps them warm, drools on them when being pet, and has many other Aby-cat quirks.
Sid had kidney failure at about age 5. I went through the painful task of giving him subcutaneous fluids a few times a week for nearly a year along with keeping him on the Science Diet k/d formula. By ensuring that he drinks plenty of water each day and eats his food, he hasn't needed to get the fluids. He's been healthy without the fluids (vet said so), and happy for nearly a year. As long as we've catered to his wanting a glass of water when we have one, or drinking from the sink each morning and night, he's done great. And he does drink a lot of water - he thinks its a treat.
I have had many people interested in taking Sidney, but the possibility of him needing in-home care in the future is making people uncomfortable. I feel Sidney has many years ahead of him. It's been 3 years since his issue and he's doing great. I don't want his wonderful cattitude to be overlooked by his history, but I do feel it's only right to disclose everything about him. - Laura W.
If you are interested in this cat, reply to this email and I will get you in touch with the appropriate person. |
