Greetings!
I just want to take a moment and put the spotlight on the Corvallis-Albany Lavender Womyn's group. For being the smallest member base (they just reached 101 members), there is nothing small about them. They are active, energetic and full of ideas for creating new events to bring everyone together.
Wendy, Faith and Tania have done a great job of leading and keeping CALW group going strong. Tania is even in the process of creating a web site for them, which they have never had before. They have survived for over 2 years without a web site and have built their member base merely by word of mouth. I'd have to say they are probably the most active LW group right now still having atleast one monthly gathering almost every month.
Their next adventure is to start a fine dining group. Currently, they are looking at possibly going to Strega or Le Bistro as their first fine dining event.
You can also visit their Yahoo site at: CALW
I hope you will find the time to check them out. They sound like a great, fun group of women!
A reminder...PORTLAND PRIDE is this weekend. Go to: www.pridenw.com for more details. Be sure to read more about the Dyke March below.

Corvallis PRIDE - Last Game Today!
The Corvallis Pride women?s tackle football team is hosting their final game of the 2008 season this Saturday, June 14th against the Seattle Majestics. It looks like we will qualify for the playoffs! We are needing volunteers to work concessions, on our chain gang (they hold the down box and markers) plus we need some people willing to volunteer as security? Nothing too heavy just making sure everyone enjoys the game. If you are interested, please reply to pridecoach@peak.org If you don't volunteer and just want to watch the game, kickoff is at 1:00 at Corvallis High School! Thanks! Beth Head Coach - Owner |

The Butch Cook Book
The Butch Cook Book is available for $18.95 at:
This book is partly serious and partly humorous. For example, my old friend Garbo from Columbus, Ohio contributed 3 recipes for preparing green beans: stone butch green beans, soft butch green beans, and green beans for butches hoping for sex on the first date. "Bonuses to the recipes are glimpses into butch life and lore as well as novel culinary secrets."
A woman who sings in Jubilate (the women's choir of Corvallis) is a contributor, as is Tret Fure. The book was edited by Lee Lynch, Sue Hardesty, and Nel Ward.

Ballot Blocked!!
Basic Rights Oregon has learned that the out-of-state groups who had hoped to overturn Oregon's domestic partnership and anti-discrimination laws have apparently abandoned their efforts to place initiatives repealing the laws on the November ballot. As reported by Stephen Marc Beaudoin on the Just Out blog, the groups cite legal problems among the factors dooming their campaign. This means that one of their paths to the ballot is now blocked. California Marriages
Basic Rights Oregon is trying to gauge how many same-sex couples in Oregon are planning to go to California to get married. If you're among them, please notify becky@basicrights.org
BRO is not encouraging Oregonians to take this step, simply because if they do get married there and later split up, one member of the couple will have to live in California for 6 months in order for them to get a divorce.
Thanks, Faith |
