Greetings!
We had a great group of women who came to hear Tret Fure LIVE at our home last Saturday night. We started the concert off outside with the firepit going, but then the air really cooled down fast, so with the help of the women we moved the concert indoors. It happened to be perfect timing to move indoors, too, because it was more of a cozy atmosphere, which brought more emotion to her more sensitive songs, including "Sail Away" which was sung in remembrance of Marlene who had passed away last February.
We also had a rare treat to hear Tret play the song "That Side of the Moon is too Dark" on the piano. What a great song! That was a special request from one of Marlene's friends who felt this song really represented Marlene. If anyone has that song, could I borrow it? It is not available for purchase anymore, and I would love to get ahold of it.
Thanks to the wonderful women who attended the event. Your warmth and appreciation is greatly acknowledged. We received a lot of gratitude for hosting an event like this, which makes all of our hard work worthwhile. Thanks to the many women who helped to move everything indoors. And many thanks to Tami and Tracie who stuck around to the very end to help us clean up afterwards. I hope to get the photos from the event uploaded to snapfish sometime this next week.
Also, we have a date set for Lavender Womyn's 5 year anniversary celebration. It is set for August 17th at 2:00pm. Click here for more details.
The Soromundi Poker fundraiser scheduled for Sunday June 8th, 2008, has been postponed...It will be re-schedule for another day.

Update on California Gay Marriages
On Monday, a constitutional amendment to ban same-sex marriage was placed on the November ballot in California. The radical right asked the California Supreme Court to put its ruling allowing same-sex marriages on hold until after the election.
The Court denied that request, clearing the way for gay and lesbian weddings to begin June 17th.

Rachel Garlin House Concert
Some of you may remember a house concert we did awhile back featuring Rachel Garlin and Joni Laurence. Well, Rachel is coming out with a new CD and plans on touring in Oregon in either October or November. We have already had two house concerts this year, and I'd like to know if anyone would be interested in seeing Rachel at a house concert, and also if anyone would be willing to host this concert. She may even be able to talk Joni into doing a co-bill with her since Joni lives in Portland now.
Please let me know if you're interested by taking a survery. If there isn't enough interest then we won't pursue this. Someone would also have to be willing to host this event.
If you have problems with the survey, you can always just send your response to me by clicking here. |

Last Community Auction
Sunday, June 8th will be the last Community auction until the Fall. The auction will be at 7 PM at the Southside Speakeasy. If we get a volunteer DJ there will also be a Tea Dance and chance to meet new people. We need donations of auction items and items for the 25 & 50 cent and $1 & $2 tables (these items are not auctioned - you just pick out what you like and pay the money person). This most likely will be the last time for the tables. All unsold items from the tables are donated to local non-profit thrift shops. Some of the items we have for Father's Day Gifts are: Flip Video Camcorder, Celestron PowerSeeker 50 Telescope, Dockers Socks, Beach Towels, Certificate for Night at Marriott Residence Inn in Salem - includes full hot breakfast buffet and manager's social (Mon thru Thur only), Wine, Osark Trail Rain Suit (blue - medium), and more.
We still need items for our last auction of the Spring. Items we need are Wine, Candles, Gift Certificates, Games, Gift Certifcates for Hair Cuts or Meals, and whatever else you can think of. Send an e-mail to: thecapitolforum@aol.com We can use CD's, DVD's, VHS Videos, Knick Knacks, etc. for 25 cent through $2 tables. |

Journey's Still Needs Your Help
Journey's is at 925 Hood Street NE in Salem, Oregon. On the corner of Hood and Summer Streets (Summer Street being a main arterial through town), and in the Grant Neighborhood. It will house a Psychiatric Social worker and a Retail Space offering therapeutic and self help products as a specific conditional use in a historically significant building. In order to use this property there are specific conditions that need to be present, or need to be met. These ARE all present, or met, as per a Hearings Officer decision made April 22, 2008.
Grant Neighborhood Association, as well as six neighbors, have filed an appeal to be heard before the City Council on June 16th at 6:00pm. We truly believe that this would be a great asset to the community. We ask that you sign our petition to join with us in support of our dream: http://www.thepetitionsite.com/1/help-start-Journeys
