Greetings!
It's hard to believe, but Lavender Womyn turns 5 years old tomorrow, June 1st. What's really amazing is that we continue to grow every week. Just this week we've had six new members join. In fact, I still don't think a week has gone by where we haven't had at least one new member join. You will still find several new faces at every Lavender Womyn's event.
There are some women I would like to acknowledge who take an active part in Lavender Womyn:
- The person who I get most of my information from is, Faith, of the Corvallis-Albany group. I don't know how she does it, but she is a wealth of information on events in our little corner of the world. She has also become very active in updating our LW calendar, which is great!
- I'd also like to acknowledge Wendy and Tania for keeping the Corvallis-Albany group up and running. It's not always easy or rewarding running a group, but they continue to keep on trucking.
- Then, there's Linda of the Portland LW group. She's great about letting the Portland women know about events happening in their area, plus she takes an active role in the Salem group with events like Bunco and Capitol PRIDE.
- And, where would we be without all of our great photos of our events. I do take some photos, but I've had lots of help from Dawn, Lisa, Nori, and Bea over the years.
- Thanks to Kathie S. of the Salem group. She has been our best advertiser, and has helped our group grow quickly. Plus, she has done many other things along the way to support the group in many different ways, like hosting our Capitol PRIDE booth and billards events.
- And last , but definitely not least, thanks to Diane and Cindy for hosting many of our Bunco events, until we outgrew their home.
Since June's weather is usually unpredictable, we will be celebrating our 5 years on a Sunday sometime in July or August. I will let you know once the date has been set.
This group continues to grow and exist because of each of you. Thank you for giving Salem and the surrounding communities a place where we can feel safe to be ourselves and have fun at the same time!! I will see many of you tonight at the Tret Fure concert at our home. If you haven't RSVP'd, it's not too late. We always have room for more since the weather is looking promising.

Beware of Scammers
Kathy and I recently went through the process of buying a car for our teenage daughter to drive. During the process, we almost fell victim to a scam and came frightening close to losing a lot of money. The whole process looked real and sounded legitimate. A word of caution...never send a money gram, money transfer, wire transfer, money order, and anything like that to anyone no matter how legitimate it may look or seem. We ran into two scammers. One on Craigslist and one on www.cars.com If you can't touch, see, feel, and test drive the car, don't do it!!
I'm sure this philosoghy pertains to anything you can buy over the internet. You really have to be careful these days. |

The She Project
The She Project is about women's community, creative process, and party games. It's become a community-wide women's project. On a designated date, women responded-with words, images, color, texture-to a "She Phrase" that intrigues, provokes, and inspires us to explore, express, and discover ourselves.
Come see what 140 local women created in the main meeting room of the Corvallis-Benton County Public Library (corner of 6th and Monroe in Corvallis) from 6:00 to 9:00 PM on June 6th. There will be a lot of creations to view. For more information about the She Project, visit: http://www.sheproject.com |

JUST OUT Bunco Event - For Singles Only
Please note - this is not the infamous Lavender Womyn Bunco event, and is different in that it is for "singles only", but is a great event to attend if you've never been to one.
Are you ready for summer fun and Portland Pride? Looking for dates, friends and maybe even more?
If the answer is yes, then you join JUST OUT and Marty Davis as they present the June 1st Great Big Old- Fashioned Lesbian Potluck and Bunco Extravaganza!
There will be food (because you're bringing it), wine and beverages (because I'm bringing those), and a room full of laughter and fun. How do I know this? Because this will be our fifth Bunco event and the first four have been a blast.
Please join us Sunday, June 1 at 5:00 at Portland's Q Center, at 69 SE Taylor St.
Bring a salad, appetizer, main dish, dessert, or whatever to share. As noted, adult beverages will be provided.
If you've been to an earlier Bunco game, please come back. If you haven't joined us yet, well, now's the time. Don't be shy, this is one of the friendliest and nicest groups of women that you could ever hope to find.
Hope to see you there! For additional information contact Marty Davis at marty@justout.com

Portland PRIDE
June 14th - 15th, 2008
The 2008 board for Pride Northwest Inc. has revealed this year's theme, "Pride. Bring It." The board believes that everyone in Oregon needs to bring their pride to the table in the form of activism and visibility in order to advance equality in the state of Oregon during these tumultuous times. They felt this was a simple and inclusive theme that calls for action from all citizens of the GLBTQQI community. Bring your PRIDE to Portland in June. Eugene Hot Flash has a New Venue
Hey Eugene!
"I'm so excited! I just can't hide it! I'm about to lose control... and I KNOW I like it!"
HOT FLASH Eugene has a potential new home! I just sealed a deal in a great venue for Saturday, July 19th. We're moving to Diablo's Downtown Lounge -- street level (not downstairs) at 959 Pearl St. in Eugene. The Downtown Lounge was formerly Perry's, a club in which many of you came out. It's familiar, but altogether new! (Thank you, Margaret, for the suggestion.)
Put the date on your calendar NOW! We are auditioning on July 19 for a full-time slate on the club's calendar, so your attendance at this summer dance is important. The Downtown Lounge needs to know that they have made the right decision allowing us to use their space. Of course we'll announce this again before the date but I wanted everyone to know that Eugene Hot Flash is alive, thriving and coming back loud and strong. See you all either this Saturday, May 31 at Portland Hot Flash, at the 4th annual Portland PRIDE Hot Flash on Saturday, June 14th, and in Eugene in July!
