Greetings!

The Tret Fure house concert is coming up soon.  Tret will be here to entertain us at the end of this month on Saturday, May 31st.  She will be performing at our home (Kim and Kathy) in West Salem.  If the weather is nice we'll have the concert outdoors in our big backyard with the firepit going to keep everyone warm.  Be sure to dress accordingly.  If it's raining, we'll all gather inside where it is dry.

On February 27th, we lost one of our LW members, Marlene, to cancer.  Marlene always enjoyed our house concerts.  In fact, our concerts were the only events she attended.  Therefore, Tret will be performing a song in memory of her since she will be here in spirit with us.  Tret may also play a song on the piano (one Marlene would enjoy), if it's not too much out of tune.  We'll have to play that one by ear (no pun intended).

For more details, please visit our web site at:  Upcoming Events
If you haven't already, click here to RSVP.

I'll also be sending out an email later on with more information about our address and directions.
Women Ending HungerWomen Ending Hunger

Please join us for the rally to launch Women Ending Hunger, Saturday, May 10, 2008 @ 10:00am.  Wilson Park, State Capitol (at the gazebo).

Women Ending Hunger will assist Marion-Polk Food Share's continuing efforts to feed hungry people while simultaneously developing and assisting with the implementation of strategies to end hunger in our two-county area through preventative and proactive measures that will improve the self-sufficiency of individuals and families. This collaboration seeks to draw upon the economic, social, educational, and personal connection women have to combat hunger and address its root-causes.

Speakers will include Ron Hays, Marion-Polk Food Share Executive Director, Salem Mayor Janet Taylor, First Lady Mary Oberst, and community member, Linda Munguia. There will be activities for children, and information about how you can get involved with this exciting new movement.

Vote Equality 2008
Vote Equality

Now more than ever, we need to stand up for those candidates who will stand up for all Oregonians. Why? The stakes have never been so high. Join the Basic Rights Equality PAC in supporting Democrat Kate Brown for Oregon Secretary of State.

This year, Oregon's top race is for Secretary of State. That's the person in charge of ensuring that every vote is counted, and that Oregon political organizations comply with the law. And the best candidate in this race is Kate Brown. Kate Brown has been a champion of equality during her 16 years of service in the Oregon Legislature. And she played a critical leadership role in passing Oregon's anti-discrimination protections last year.

Time and time again, Kate has been there for the LGBT community. Click here to hear Oregon couple Jackie Thomas and Dee McCoy talk about why they support Kate Brown for Secretary of State

A vote for Kate Brown is a vote to defend equality for all Oregonians.  http://www.voteequality.com/

Last Community Auction until Fall

The last Community auction for the summer will be this Sunday, May 11th (Mother's Day) at the Southside Speakeasy. If you have something you can donate for the last auction we would really appreciate it. This is also the last time we will have the 25 cent, 50 cent, etc. tables. When the auctions start again in the fall we will only have auction items. So if you have small items for the tables (knick knacks, CD's, VHS & DVD Movies & Music, etc.) please get them to us by this week end. You can also leave them at the Southside Speakeasy for Sunday's auction & party.

MCC - Sweet Spirit Still Alive & Well!

To the gay community rumor has it that Sweet Spirit MCC has closed it's doors.  That couldn't be farther from the truth. In fact we are very close to hiring a new pastor and are looking for a new bigger location. Services are at 10:30 am at 2544 19th ST SE, in Salem. Eric has returned to play music for us.

A Sad Note - Passing of a Friend!

Salem has lost another member of our community. Renee Casino (aka Jerry (Jeri) Baker) died Thursday, May 1st. Renee Casino was a former Miss Gay Salem and an ISCWE Princess during the reign of Emperor Barb. Renee Casino also was the Capitol Forum's auctioneer for several years

Pictures & other ISCWE & Capitol Forum History needed!

Jon of ISCWE is gathering old information pictures, coronation programs, flyers, etc. about ISCWE. If you have items you could loan, please let us know. They will be scanned in the computer and returned to you unharmed. On pictures if you could list names and dates it would help.  The Capitol Forum & Capitol Pride is also doing the same on their web sites so could use any help we can get.  You can also drop them off at the Southside Speakeasy - especially this Sunday. Be sure to put your complete name, address, and telephone number if you want the items returned.

A special message from a community member! - A Gay MC Commissioner would be a 1st.

Hey You, It is Brian.  I was voting on the OFFICIAL PRIMARY BALLOT and noticed that there wasn't any DEMOCRAT officially running for Marion County Commissioner Position #3.  And, I thought that might be interesting.  I've been involved politically in a lot of different things in my life and I might be able to do some good in that role.  Not that I have a chance to win, but, if you don't mind, write me in anyway and let's see what happens?  Hey, it could be cool.  Peace and Take Good Care, Bria
