Greetings!
Every Summer, Wendy and Barb plan a big event called "BUSHSTOCK." This is an all women's BBQ and campout. It is not a Lavender Womyn event, but there will be lots of Lavender Womyn there.
This year Bushstock will be on July 26th and 27th. Saturday will include an AM Float on the Santiam River, BBQ/Potluck which starts @ 4:30pm, and then a concert in the evening featuring rhythm & blues band Sonny Hess starting at 6:00pm.
Sunday will include a breakfast for the campers.
Things to remember:
Campers can come early to set up their tents.
Bring a chair, a dish for the potluck and BYOB.
No children, pets or drugs.
Do not drink and drive.
Cost is a $10.00 donation to help cover the band and other expenses.

Hopeful News for Domestic Partners
"Concerned Oregonians" is now publicly admitting that it probably won't get enough petition signatures to put the domestic partnerships law on the ballot.
The main reason? Basic Rights Oregon and the ACLU have filed legal challenge after legal challenge, and Concerned Oregonians hasn't even been able to start gathering signatures yet. They can't circulate petitions until the Oregon Supreme Court decides how the title of the ballot initiative would be worded. Basic Rights Oregon wants voters to understand that gay/lesbian couples already have these rights and the ballot measure would take them away.
There is no deadline for the Supreme Court to hand down its decision. However, there's a deadline for Concerned Oregonians to submit 80,000+ signatures, which is July 3.

Out/LOUD Queer Women's Music Festival
Out/LOUD is coming up, so mark your calendars for Friday, May 16th and Saturday, May 17th and get ready to rock!
Out/LOUD is not only the University of Oregon Women's Center annual queer women's music festival, but it is also the largest festival of its type in the Pacific Northwest. What started as Lesbopalooza several years ago has become a hip festival that draws audiences from around the state and reaches people of different ages and tastes. This year's Out/LOUD will certainly have something for everyone, as the planning committee has made sure to take purposeful measures in fundraising and recruiting of artists and performers who reflect the intersecting spectrums of identities, talents and genres with queer women's music.
The festival will be at WOW Hall, corner of 8th and Lincoln in Eugene. On both nights, the doors open at 7:30 and the show starts at 8:00. Tickets: $7.00 general public, $5.00 U of O student. Tickets are available through the WOW Hall Box Office and the ASUO Women's Center, and at the door. For more information, please contact the Women's Center at 541-346-4095.

Last Dance in Eugene
Hey Eugene Women! Don't miss your last chance to experience Hot Flash at The Indigo District!
HOT FLASH FINALE
Indigo District
1290 Oak St. in Eugene
Saturday, May 10, 2008
5-9pm $8.00
Hot Flash Dances has lost its Eugene venue. We will be having our final Hot Flash dance at the Indigo District on Saturday, May 10, 2008. We want everyone to come out smiling, showing your support and shaking your booties to DJ Lauren's beat!
As I have expressed many times over the past year, my purpose in Eugene has been to create a safe, comfortable environment for lesbians to meet, network, date, befriend and enrich each other. To this end, I feel that Hot Flash has been an extraordinary success.
I feel that Hot Flash's mission should continue in Lane County. To leave a community of 460 women (number of women on my email list, some of whom actually like the music at Hot Flash...lol) would be a great disservice.
We have lost our venue, but we have not lost our spirit. Hot Flash may change formatting so now is the time to let us know what you like and what you would like to change at our dances. Talk to us about the music and how we can bring you our best. We will remain intergenerational (21-101), so please accommodate that as you send feedback.
We are currently suspending dances in June while we are looking for a new venue. Any feedback regarding clubs, halls and other fabulous places to hold Hot Flash is welcomed.
Some of you may know Kritik from her many performances at Hot Flash. She is a political hip hop artist and she has come onboard as our new Eugene site manager. She's young, hip, an incredible organizer and she has lots of ideas percolating on ways to increase our numbers and bring us continued success. As I said, we may be seeing some format changes so now is the time to shout out. Send all feedback to her directly at kritikrap@hotmail.com
Both Kritik and I will be at the May 10th dance to talk with you, so make sure you come out and tell us how best to serve you. See you then!

Lloyd Chapman for Mayor - Update
CAMPAIGN ALERT Things are going well on many fronts: lawn signs out, mailers planned, great website, CCTV ads running, paid advertising planned, letters printed, visibility events planned, canvassing 2 more weekends. The voters pamphlet for Marion County are out. Thanks to all of you who have contributed so much already.
RING! RING! NOW, if you can help some more...HELP ME PHONE, or find someone who can. Phoning can reach a lot of people in a short period of time. Phoners are finding that people do not know me. When they hear I am running, they are interested. I will be phoning any time I can. And its fun! One phoner got to chat with the Mayor's neighbor...who WASN'T voting for her!
Here are two ways you can help: 1) Attend the phone banks at SEIU - EVERY WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY until May 20th. Contact tresa@olcv.org or 503.421.9710. and let her know you're coming. (you get training) 2) Host a cell phone party. Invite 5-10 friends to bring their cell phones and CALL FOR LLOYD. You offer refreshments and they bring their phones. We will bring the lists and do a short and hilarious training. Contact Melanie (melbelle57@hotmail.com) Together, Lloyd PS We are planning a bridge party for Friday evening May 9th. Please contact Nancy Jackson at <nlj1013@netzero.net> or check out my website lloydchapmanformayor.com for details. | |
