Inflammatory Breast Cancer
Inflammatory Breast Cancer

You Don't Have to Have a Lump to Have Breast Cancer.

We have been taught that when a woman discovers a lump on her breast she should go to the doctor immediately. Inflammatory breast cancer usually grows in nests or sheets, rather than as a confined, solid tumor and therefore can be diffused throughout the breast with no palpable massClick Here to watch a video.

There is more information available on the internet if you search for this topic.

Greetings!

Do you ever have those coincidences that make you go...hmmmm?  Well, Kathy and I had one recently.  Actually, it's been more like several coincidences around the same theme, but due to space in this newsletter, I will only share our most recent one.  And, let me just say first off that I don't believe in coincidences.  I believe it is a much higher power that brings these things we call "coincidences" into our lives.

Let me back up a bit to give you some history.  A couple of years ago, we had talked about where we would like to live once our kids have all left the nest, and the one place we thought of was Fort Collins, Colorado.  Well, since that time we have had Fort Collins enter our lives in many ways, and I will share with you the most recent one.

Back in January, a woman contacted me about wanting to start a lesbian group in Ft. Collins.  Okay, so that was interesting enough.  Out of all of the cities in the United States, I get an email from a woman in Ft. Collins.  We communicated for about a month, and then I didn't hear anything for awhile until towards the end of March.  She emails me and says she is in Beaverton at a conference for work, and asks if Salem is close by.  You see she didn't realize she was going to be close to us until she was driving from the airport to her hotel and saw a sign that read "Salem."  Needless to say, Kathy and I drove up to Beaverton to meet her, and had a great time.  There have been many more "coincidences" around Ft.Collins, but I thought this one would be a fun one to share.

Whether or not Kathy and I really do end up in Colorado in about 9 years or so remains to be seen, but it has been fun to see how the Universe works in interesting ways at times.

Spike, founder of the Triangle Community, is trying to put together a Salem Pride Film Festival, and he would like Lavender Womyn to participate in the planning of the festival, especially in the selection of the lesbian-oriented films that might be available.  Are there any LW members who are familiar with lesbian-oriented films, and who would be willing to participate in putting this together?  He is looking at the Pride Film Festival taking place the weekend after Capitol PRIDE as a possible date.  If you are interested, send me an email and I'll get you in touch with Spike.

Portland PRIDE March
Portland PRIDE

June 14th - 15th is Portland PRIDE.

For Portland Pride this year we want Salem to have a strong presence in the parade and at their festival to celebrate our 30 years as a GLBT community, and to show Oregon that we have a strong community here in Salem. Jonathan is asking Salem area organizations, groups, churches and businesses to march in the parade as one Salem "contingent" with your own banners, signs and floats, but would ask a few members of each group to carry a sign advertising Capitol Pride 2008.

I would like to know if we can get enough interest from Lavender Womyn members to march in the parade along with the other Salem groups.  It would be ideal to have at least 15 committed women to march.  I sent this request out earlier this week and only 4 women said they would march.  I realize this is a bit early to be thinking about June, but if you are at all interested, let me know so I can let Jonathan know if Lavender Womyn will be a part of this march.  We just need 11 more committed women.  Are you out there?  You do not need to be a Salem member to march with the group, but you will be representing Salem.  The parade is on Sunday, June 15th starting at 11:00am.  Click here to email me.

Eugene Lavender Womyn Couples
Eugene Lavender Womyn
My partner and I are baffled at how hard it seems to be to connect with other women couples here in Eugene.  So, we'd like to host a women's group for couples, possibly once a month.  Our idea is to have it at our house (we live in the University area), and to serve tea/coffee, and snacks.  We'd like to loosely work around a theme of discussion each month, but mostly just get together, talk, inspire, learn from each other, sip lemonade on our back deck, etc.  If you're interested, click here to request more details.

Thanks!
