Greetings!
We had a great turnout for our BUNCO event last Sunday with 38 wild and crazy women who showed up to play. We had women come from all over, including Bend, Eugene, Salem, Portland, and even someone from California! Thanks, again, to Linda for giving us such a great space to hold this large of an event. It's nice to have room to move about from table to table without crawling over each other. Although, some women probably enjoyed the tight quarters we've had at past events. :-)
Our next event is a house concert on March 23rd from 6:00pm - 8:00pm. You can view more details in the left sidebar of this Newsletter, or CLICK HERE to email me.
Also, Susan (previous owner of the Edgewater Cafe), is scheduled for heart surgery on March 21st at the Salem Hospital. She will have two valve replacements and four to six months recovery. Keep Susan and her partner, Jennie, in your prayers as they go through this challenging and scary time.

"My advice to the gay community is to SHUT UP..." ~ Senator Gary George
Just last week, four state legislators took the unprecedented step of co-sponsoring two initiatives aimed at taking away the rights of LGBT Oregonians. State Senator Gary George is one of the Republican co-sponsors of the anti-gay initiative to repeal Oregon's non-discrimination law.
Here's what State Senator Gary George has to say about the GLBT community...
"My advice to the gay community is SHUT UP, just don't talk about it. If you walk around talking about what you do in the bedroom, you should be on the pervert channel." Senator George and three other Republican state legislators filed paperwork last week to repeal both our nondiscrimination law and the Domestic Partnership law. They want to take away rights from lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Oregonians.
And the question is: will we let them get away with it?
Donate to the Basic Rights Measure PAC now.
Senator Gary George is spreading intolerance and attempting to take away our rights and protections. We must step up our efforts to educate voters before the election. The Basic Rights Measure PAC (1) exists solely to work on nitty-gritty political campaigns like fighting harmful ballot measures.
Senator Gary George thinks we should shut up. Can you chip in $50 to help fight the anti-equality attack machine and tell Senator George you won't sit back and be quiet?
Our offices around the state are bustling. Every day we are doing the work to ensure that:
- Our lawyers have everything they need to argue for the most accurate ballot titles for these initiatives;
- Our field organizers and activists have the pens, clipboards, and materials to educate Oregon voters across this state;
- Our team has access to the best research, messaging tools, and political advisers to chart the course to victory.
Thank you for all you do,
Jeana Frazzini and the Basic Rights Oregon team
P.S. Don't let Gary George have the last word. Help us raise our voices today. Contribute to the Measure PAC.
1) The Basic Rights Measure PAC is a state political action committee affiliated with Basic Rights Oregon. Your contribution to the Basic Rights Oregon Measure PAC goes directly to defending our rights at the ballot to help fend off anti-gay attacks. Contributions to the Measure PAC are eligible for Oregon's Political Tax Credit, which allows $50 for individuals and $100 per couple filing jointly to be credited to your state taxes - thereby reducing your taxes or increasing your refund. |

Lesbian Owned Campground
There is a lesbian owned campground in Tiller, Oregon (just South of Roseburg).
One of our Portland LW members highly recommends it. She says it is a great safe space for lesbians to camp. Check it out at: http://www.telequacampground.com/index2.html |

Portland Lavender Womyn
We'd like to host a kid-friendly scrabble night.
In our previous town, we used to have a regular Saturday night Scrabble night. It had a potluck element, in that folks brought stuff to eat when they could, but we always had something on hand, as well. Other games are good, too: backgammon, chess, apples-to-apples.
Llet's go with a 2nd Saturday thing, April 12 being the first one. We'll start around 5 or 6pm. Our kids will be here (3 and 5), heading to bed around 7 or so. We're usually petered out by 10 or 11pm, although it's not unknown for scrabble to persist late into the night given the right conversation and beverages ;-)
If you'd like to come, please click here to request directions.
Peace, Erin |
