Randy Pausch is a 47 year-old Professor at Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. In September 2006, he was diagnosed with metastaticpancreatic cancer. He has been given only three to six months to live.

Greetings!

First off...remember its Daylight Saving Time effective on Sunday at 2:00am.  That means you need to set your clocks ahead one hour tonight before you go to bed, so when you wake up Sunday morning you will have the correct time.  Especially you Bunco players.  You don't want to be late.  It's important that everyone be there on time so we can start playing.  We are up to 52 RSVP's so far, so according to history that means we will probably have a solid 35 to 40 women who will actually show up for the fun and exciting game of BUNCO!!

Have you ever heard the saying, "Be careful what you ask for because you just might get it"?  Well, I now know what that saying means.  I bought my car from a dealership and they put this ugly dealership sticker in the corner of my front window.  For the past seven months, I have complained about how I don't like that sticker and I wished it wasn't there (would you like a sticker that says "COX CHEVROLET"?).

So, a couple of weeks ago, Kathy and I took a trip to the coast, and a truck passed us kicking up a rock which hit our windshield (yes, the one with the COX sticker on it).  I figured no biggy...when we arrived back home in a couple of days I'll go get the rock chip filled.  Well, I guess the Universe was tired of listening to me bitch, because when we woke up the next day to go hop in our car, to our shocking amazement there was a crack in our windshield 3 1/2 inches long!  Needless to say, that ugly sticker along with the whole windshield no longer exists.  That wasn't exactly the way I planned on removing the sticker.  I was thinking of something more along the line of a hot hairdryer and a razor blade, but it all worked out in the end.  Now, I can put my own ugly sticker on it!

Two REPEAL Initiatives Filed
Basic Rights Oregon

Basic Rights Oregon has learned that Oregon State Senator Fred Girod and State Rep. Sal Esquivel have filed an initiative to repeal Oregon's domestic partnership law. Outrageously, this time around the effort is being spearheaded by state legislators whose duty it is to protect Oregonians.

What can you do?
We cannot afford to be complacent. To put this divisive and discriminatory measure on the November 4, 2008 ballot, they will need to collect about 83,000 valid signatures by July 3.

We knew this was in the works. When our opponents failed to gather enough signatures for their referendum effort last year, they vowed to try again. We knew that even though we fought them - and won - in court, they would not give up. And here they are, with yet another divisive and discriminatory proposal, backed by out-of-state groups with deep pockets to fund their unpopular agenda.

Sign the Pledge to Defend Equality!

Ask your friends, family, and colleagues to sign the pledge!

We now know most Oregonians aren't buying what these guys are selling. Oregonians don't want to put their LGBT neighbors in harm's way. Oregonians believe that loving couples who have made a lifelong commitment to one another should have the basic security provided by domestic partnerships.

The groups in charge of last year's referendum efforts still have investigations pending against them in the Secretary of State's office. We don't think they are above cheating again - and we'll make sure they don't get away with breaking the law. Basic Rights Oregon will monitor their efforts to make sure they follow the rules.

In addition to the anti-equality petition that would repeal Oregon's domestic partnership law, our opposition has filed another that would overturn legislation that makes discrimination in housing, employment and public accommodations against the law. We know Oregonians support these laws, and we will do everything we can do stop these anti-equality activists from turning the clock back on equality.

Read more about BRO's response to the repeal initiatives. We'll keep you in the loop whenever new information is available.

Jeana Frazzini,
Executive Director
Basic Rights Oregon

Donate In Memory of Marlene
Marlene
Marlene had a very strong vision and had been beginning to work on a sculpture she called "The Healing Wall". She had talked extensively with several people about this, including artist Ann Kresge.  Our idea is to follow through with sculpting the art with the help of all with whom she shared this vision. The sculpture would then be donated to the YWCA, where anyone wanting to use it for healing, physical, emotional, spiritual----anything, could access and use it.

Donations for this project may be sent to Jawea Mockabee, who has set up a special fund for such projects. Please earmark your donation "Marlene's Healing Wall".

Doggie Play Date
Go to LW Message Board We are looking for anyone who would like to get together once a month (or so) to walk and exercise our dogs. Kind of a doggie play date. We have two dogs that would love to socialize and make friends with other dogs. I thought we could meet at dog friendly parks and or schools, we would even be willing to drive down to Salem for our lab. If anyone likes this idea or has any better suggestions please let me know.

My name is Jess and I work at a Law firm that handles adoptions.
We work with a lot of Gay and Lesbian couples through out the adoption process and would like to find some images of Lesbian and Gay families to decorate our walls.  My boss has put me in charge of finding the artwork, which I have been struggling to find.  As an artist myself, I want to find local artists to decorate our walls. I was wondering if you could recommend a few photographers from Oregon.  We are looking for LBGT family photographs of all backgrounds. Any names or websites would help.  Thank you so much for your time!

Capitol Pride got a boost when two local men donated a $100 each to Capitol Pride in Carole Fewx's memory. Carole had chosen Capitol Pride to receive any funds raised at her annual Oscar's Awards party. Carole will always be remembered fondly by our community.

The TC, the Triangle Community, overhauled it's Web site this weekend, launching a new look for the site and a new logo for the oldest gay men's social group in the Salem-Keizer area.

Also, the TC created a page on its Web site for Pride in 2008.  We list the Washington and Oregon Pride festivals that we are aware of to date.  Others will be added as we become aware of them.  To view the Pride page, go to the TC's home page at www.trianglecommunity.org and click on the Washington, Oregon pride button at the top of the home page.

Hope lots of folks can come to Salem this coming Sunday to see what the candidates for Emperor and Empress XXXI, Stingray Slaughter and Simply Devine, have to offer you.
