Greetings!
We received a little taste of Summer this week, as well as some sadness as we lost a wonderful woman. Yet, the Spirit world gained a great soul. Some of our members only receive the Weekly Newsletter, so you may not know that Marlene, a Lavender Womyn member, left us last Wednesday, February 27th, and passed onto another journey. She will be greatly missed by her friends and family. You can read more details below.
Kathy and I had a wonderful getaway weekend at the Oregon coast (you have to do that once-in-awhile when you have four kids). We witnessed a beautiful sunset, then a sunrise the next morning, and found a delicious cafe in Old Town Bandon called Minute Cafe. It has great service and food, but you'll want to get in early because it gets busy fast.
And...if you live in Oregon and have never visited Bandon's coastline, then you're missing out! You can't see the incredible rocks from the highway. You have to turn off and wind back a little ways, and then you'll be amazed! If you're interested in knowing more, let me know. We almost missed it the first time we visited Bandon. This was our fourth trip there in a year. I think it's beccoming a habit.

Marlene Journeys On...
If you've ever attended one of our house concerts, then you most likely saw Marlene sitting in the front row. She always loved attending those, but now she is off singing her own song as she entered the Spirit world on February 27th at 8:20pm. Linda and Jennifer were wonderful about keeping us all informed over these past several months on how she was doing. Many thanks to both of you!! Here are some of the latest emails I received about Marlene's passing...
From Linda
With the saddest of heart I share the news, Marlene passed away this evening (February 27th) at 8:20 PM Tibet, our cat, was sitting on her lap and had been there most of the day. Jennifer and I were just beginning to bath her when she very peacefully stopped breathing. We couldn't have asked for a more precious moment. Jennifer, Marlene's daughter Kerri, Marlene's brother Ron and his wife, and Jawea came in, held her and told her how much we loved her. I didn't do this alone. I can't begin to thank all of you. From Jennifer
Last night----We all knew the journey was entering its last phase, even as the day began. The love and respect surrounding Marlene and her community was, and is incredible. Prayer flags are flying, the wind lifting the messages and carrying them into the world and beyond. You are welcome to come by and make your own, or yet another, to add to honor Marlene and energize the wishes for peace, love, hope and justice that are so needed everywhere. The materials and instructions are on the porch.
Marlene did move on surrounded by love, just as she wished. She was held and held, Lori came and helped us all get our feet on the ground and continue with honoring our breaking, yet joyful hearts. We kept Marlene wrapped with her Reiked scarf, her purple sarong and the beautiful quilt made by Laurie and Sharon, which Marlene had been "wearing" all day. We then laid her totem symbols around her, I played my clay flute, playing the song we traditionally sing at Solstice:
Light is returning Even though this is the darkest hour, No one can hold back the dawn
Let's keep it burning, Let's keep the light of hope alive Make safe our journey Through the storm
One planet is turning Circle on her path around the sun Earth mother is calling Her children home
And with that, we are all moving on, with a spark of Marlene in our hearts.
Much love to you all.
From Jawea
The outpouring of love from so many who knew and cherished Marlene was amazing to her, and uplifted her spirits every time the mail came or someone dropped a token of their love off at her house. She will live on forever in our hearts and in the rivers, mountains, deserts, sunsets, grandchildren, and all else that she held dear.
Talk about death with dignity and grace -- she showed us the way.
Marlene's obituary will be in Sunday's Statesman Journal and the Register Guard (Eugene's newspaper) the following Sunday. |
