Greetings!

Nothing is more awesome than a women wearing
beautiful spring fashions and showing them off to
her friends! We know because on April 16th we had a
very successful fashion show where our very own
members along with students of the Grossmont OPT
(Office Professional Training) program strutted their
stuff.
 
The OPT program relies on donations especially in
these tough economic times to provide instruction to
students who are out of work or looking for new
opportunities in accounting, insurance and general
office support. All the PWI fashion show proceeds go
directly to the OPT program.
 
PWI is changing lives in our community by helping OPT
students stay and finish their program to make better lives for themselves and their families.

give the students at OPT.

Member Update
 

Melody Hubbard (udpate) 
Melody goes into UCSD Thornton on May 11th for a week of chemotherapy, the donor (a guy in Germany) has his bone marrow withdrawn on the 17th and 18th and then it's flown here and transplanted into Melody on the 19th.  Now we just have to hope that the volcano in Ireland doesn't erupt again, which would prevent the plane from bringing the marrow here.  Depending on how her body receives the bone marrow she will be in the hospital for anywhere from a month to 4 months.   She can't have any real plants or flowers during this time.  She has a "Nook" from Barnes and Noble so she can read books without having to haul the books with her. So you can send her Barnes and Noble gift cards so she can upload books.  Her husband Ron (past member of PWI) is still looking for a long term position in insurance so keep him in mind if you know of any openings.  

 
Kristin Hinds:
Congratulations go out to Kristin Hinds, Account Manager at San Diego Insurance Staffing.  Kristin won the "Staffing Professional of the Year" award from the San Diego Chapter of CSP (California Staffing Professionals). This prestigous award is only given to individuals that best represent their staffing firm according to the Standards of Excellence and Judging Criteria.  Recipients are required to be in the top 25% of agency producers, hold State or National Certification/Accreditation, have invovlement in outside activities and business development to include Chapter or State-Level, local special interest groups, public speaking/lectures, chairing committees, or affiliation with other professional associations.

Charity Updates/Needs
8 Ways that you can support OPT 
 
  1. Attend the Golf Tournament on August 13, 2010 
  2. Use www.GOODSEARCH.com as your search engine and when asked "Who do you search for? Put in Grossmont College. OPT gets $.01 each time. 
  3. Ralphs - Sign up on www.Ralphs.com and list the non-profit organizaion (NPO) of 82387 and OPT will get credit from your purchases.
  4. Donate Auction Items - Silent and Live Auction Items needed for Mentor nights in March and October each year.  Contact Dr. Mary Leslie at 619-644-7533 to donate.
  5. Got Old Cell Phones?  Bring your donations to the OPT office Room 512B or contact their office at 619-644-7247
  6. Purchase an OPT Cookbook.  Contact Dr. Mary Leslie or buy them at the fashion show on April 16th  
  7. Recycle for OPT - deliver Rinsed cans and bottles (CA-CRV only) to the OPT office Room 512B or call to schedule a bulk pickup at your place of business.  You can also redeem your recycleables for cash and donate the proceeds to OPT.  Contact Dr. Mary Leslie 619-644-7533for drop-off or pick-up arrangements.
