Greetings!
The 2012 Southwest Alaska Economic Summit & SWAMC Membership Meeting is a little over a week away, so make sure to register now before you forget! We'll be at the Hotel Captain Cook for a couple days of networking, information sharing, policy setting, and hopefully a bit of fun. The agenda is set (see it here), the speakers are prepared, and the scallops are ready for searing at the Thursday night reception (thanks to a donation from the Alaska Scallop Association). This will be our last email until the conference, so just give us a call or email with any questions. Thanks!

Have a Resolution to Submit to SWAMC? SWAMC's Annual Membership Meeting will take place at 10 AM on February 17th. If you or your organization has a burning policy issue that you'd like to see put before the membership, send us a resolution and we can include it in the packet. Previous resolutions have focused on fisheries research funding, bypass mail, renewable energy and energy efficiency programs, genetically engineered salmon, and other important economic development topics. Only issues of region wide or broader significance will be considered, and must be sponsored by a SWAMC member. Please submit any resolutions to our office prior to the conference. |
Fish a Headliner, but Many Other Topics Abound SWAMC is getting back to its economic roots this year by featuring a full day of Fish Talk on Friday the 17th. The day starts off with the Commissioners of ADFG and DCCED and gets us to lunch where we'll participate in an experimental economics exercise in fisheries design. Arni Thompson of UFA will moderate the afternoon discussion with folks from the Bristol Bay Economic Development Corp, NPMFC, Alaska Legislature, Icicle Seafoods, and APICDA. The panel is sure to be informative and engaging, with plenty of opportunities for all of the region's fishing interests to be heard.
But fishing won't dominate the whole agenda. We'll also feature a large panel on energy and innovative solutions on the afternoon of Thursday. Earlier that day, petroleum energy sources will be discussed as oil taxes and the gas pipeline are debated. We'll hear about Norway's approach to their economic investments, how the 2012 Southwest Transportation Plan will work for your community, and the delegation from DC will drop in via a webcast to discuss important issues with our attendees. Finally, at the end of these two days, Southwest Alaska's Legislative Delegation will entertain us at the Friday night banquet with all the scuttlebutt and drama taking place in Juneau (and some of the key legislation, too). Take a look at the full agenda here.
That's a quick recap of the event next week, but please feel free to drop us a line to find out more. Look forward to seeing you there! |
Conference Sponsorships and Vendor Booths Still Available The 2012 SWAMC Conference may be just around the corner, but sponsorship opportunities remain for those looking to support the event and make it one of the better in recent memory. Click the link below to sponsor online, or contact our office at 907.562.7380. Sponsorships always help us cover costs and achieve the most meaningful outcomes of the meeting, but more importantly they show that your community or organization is an investor in the development of Southwest Alaska. This is the last day to get your name in the program if your community or organization wants to support the conference, so act now! Additionally, we also have several exhibitor booth spots available. These booths are a chance to show off your business, organization, or agency, and come with a conference registration. What a bargain! Again, contact our office for more details on either program. |
