SWAMC's 2012 Economic Summit & Annual Membership Meeting

Southwest Alaska: The Genuine Aquabounty -- February 16-17, 2012 The 24th Southwest Alaska Economic Summit and Annual SWAMC Membership Meeting will take place February 16-17, 2012 at the Hotel Captain Cook in Anchorage. This annual event gives SWAMC members and regional stakeholders a chance to network, learn about and discuss important development topics, and reach consensus on policy issues that affect Southwest Alaska. The theme of next year's meeting- Southwest Alaska: The Genuine Aquabounty - obviously tells you that we plan to highlight the seafood industry and the positive impact it has on the region. However, there will be plenty of other relevant topics featured throughout the span of the event, with opportunities to learn and discuss how we can further enhance the economy and communities of Southwest Alaska.
You can read a bit more about the conference here, and register here. This year we've partnered with the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco to make the 2012 conference one of the better in recent memory (you'll be directed to their page for registration). From now until February, feel free to contact us with any questions regarding the event topics, sponsorships, or to become an exhibitor. We will send out regular conference updates over the next several weeks, including information on SWAMC Board nominations and membership resolutions. Until then, have a great New Year, and we hope to see you in mid-February. |
News from the Aleutians East Borough Aside from SWAMC's conference, we also wanted to report on recent news from the Aleutians East Borough. Sharon Boyette, their hard-working Administrator for the last few years, is hanging it up, and the Borough is now actively seeking a new Administrator. Click here to see the job notice. Sharon has been a great person to work with over the years, and we're sorry to see her go. She's been a long-time advocate of SWAMC and the Southwest region during her tenure with the Borough, but we have a feeling she'll still have visions of fisheries and resource development in her dreams for a while longer. Best of luck Sharon.
