"Fix these words of mine in your hearts and minds; tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. 19 Teach them to your children, talking about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates . . ."

The Educational Process At Work
John Spice

It's hard to believe we are beginning the fourth week of school. It's been a good start, and now is the time when we roll up our sleeves and put on our thinking caps for the learning that lies ahead.  It is a time when teachers are establishing classroom procedures and a pace of instruction that will allow them to accomplish their curricular objectives for the year. At the same time, they are evaluating individual student progress and taking those needs into account as they plan their lessons for the year. It is also a time when parents are getting to know their child's teacher and establishing routines at home that will compliment goals established by the teacher.  In reality, it is a partnership between home and school that we are describing here, which really makes a difference in the life of a CDS student. In the Student Handbook we read:

The Christian School exists in support of the home and in partnership with parents.
  • According to Scripture, parents are the primary educators of their children (Proverbs 22:6; Deut. 6). Within the context of the Christian school, teachers come alongside parents and partner with them in the education of their child.
  • The extent to which parents and teachers are able to collaborate together on behalf of the student will determine in large part his/her success while at school. Conversely, parents and teachers who are not able to work together stifle student growth and development.
  • Effective communication and collaboration using electronic, written, and oral means between parent and teacher in the decision making process facilitates student growth.

The basic structures for the home/school connection are there; we just need to commit ourselves to the task of making those work for the benefit of every child. We begin by establishing good study habits at home as discussed earlier, and then communicate directly with the teacher as progress is made or questions develop. May God richly bless these efforts as we partner together in the Christian education of each student enrolled at Central Day School.
CDS-PTF 2010/2011 Sponsorship Drive

The Central Day School Parent-Teacher Fellowship encourages all parents and teachers to participate in the vital partnership between home and school and accomplish the mission of our school to honor and glorify God and support the ministry of Central Church by providing an excellent education with a Christian foundation in a safe, encouraging environment. The PTF will do its part to accomplish this goal by identifying the schools needs and then asking our parents to share your prayers, time, talents, and gifts for the benefit of our students, teachers, parents, and school.

Our purpose in fundraising is to provide educational items, recess and P.E. equipment, activities and events for students, teachers and staff that cannot be covered by tuition. Having said this, we also listen to our parents and try to accommodate their wishes when it comes to what type of fundraising the majority is interested in participating.

This year we are offering sponsorship options. Each price level, as listed on the attached form, comes with an incentive for sponsoring. Please spend time with your family to pray over your support for our school. No one is obligated to do this. However, if we reach our goal, it could eliminate the need for other fundraisers! Since we have no way of knowing the amount of participation in this sponsorship drive, we will keep the events already scheduled for this year, such as the Barnes and Noble Book Fair and Thunder Run. As always, you choose which fundraiser works best for you and your family.

Our goal for this sponsorship drive is $10,000, which is an average of what we have earned with catalog fundraisers in the past. If each student, at a minimum, sponsored at the Blue and Gold level ($25) we would accomplish 3/4 of that goal. Sponsoring at a higher level would allow us to provide more educational tools and events that are not provided for in the yearly budget. Grandparents, relatives, and friends may also become a CDS-PTF sponsor and enjoy the CDS incentive items.

Lunch Program

We are again offering the lunch program for the 2010/2011 school year.  However, we have expanded to include all five days.  We are delighted to have the same great vendors - Chick-Fil-A, Sonic, Back Yard Burgers, Subway, and CiCi's - join us again. In an effort to offer healthier options for lunch, this year we will not be serving cookies with the meals and will replace them by offering Jello, mixed fruit (peaches, pears, pineapples), diced peaches, mandarin oranges, or sliced apples with the meals.  We have also added a 10oz bottle of water. All meals will be $3.50.

The meals are as follows:

Mondays - Sonic Cheeseburger (larger adult portion), Chips, Apples with Carmel
Tuesdays - 2 Slices of CiCi's Pizza, Banana, and Jello (served as a meal this year)
Wednesday - Subway Sandwich, Chips, and Fruit Selection
Thursday - Chick-Fil-A 8-piece nuggets, Chips, and Fruit Selection
Friday - Back Yard Burger Hot Dogs, Chips, and Fruit Selection

Each meal will be served with a 10oz bottle of water.
CDS reserves the right to adjust fruit options based upon vendor availability.

An online lunch order form is available on the website. All orders must be placed online and payments made thru e-Giving.  If you need assistance, please call Stacey Fleming at 255-8212.

Late Pick-Up Charge

The school cannot assume responsibility for students prior to 7:45 a.m. or later than 3:30 p.m. (or until the time of the end of carline.) Parents' cooperation is necessary in this matter for the safety of the students and for the care of the school facilities. All students who do not attend Central Learning Center's after school care program are required to exit the building at dismissal time unless involved in an after school sponsored activity. A student may not re-enter the building after dismissal without the permission of the on-duty teacher or a school administrator. Parents who enter the building after dismissal must enter through the main door of the Education Building and sign in at the information desk or present a CDS Parent Pass.

Beginning Wednesday, September 1, a student who is not picked up within 15 minutes of the scheduled dismissal time will be brought to the school office. The student must then be picked up in the school office. There will be a late pick-up charge of $1.00 per minute for each minute that exceeds the scheduled dismissal time by 15 minutes. Parents will be invoiced for all applicable late charges.

All parents, or their representatives, are expected to follow the prescribed procedures for drop-off and pick-up of children. These rules are for safety and security and are fair to all. Your cooperation is necessary for the orderly pickup for all concerned as well as a witness to our students that we are all subject to rules and regulations for the common good of everyone.

Parents who must have their child at school before 7:45 a.m. and/or pick up the child after 3:30 p.m. must make arrangements with Central Learning Center or make other provisions for care of the student. Central Learning Center has excellent before and after school care for children from 7:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m.
