| Central Church's
Parents Day Out |
|
Registration is now open for CDS families who would like to enroll your child in Central Church's Parent's Day Out and Preschool. This outstanding program provides a loving, Christ-centered preschool environment that develops the readiness skills needed for kindergarten. There are a variety of schedules for infants through transitional kindergarten with a limited number of spaces available. For more information, contact the PDO office at 255-8114.
|
| Check the Label |
|
Dennis items look alike, please frequently check the label and make sure the item belongs to you. If it does not, please return it to the office and we will return it to the rightful owner. |
| Mom's In Touch |
Parents are invited to meet on Wednesdays from 8:15-9:00 a.m. in the Chapel. We will be praying for our children as well as CDS teachers and staff. For more information, please contact Anne Frey at 737-7115. |
| Kroger Cards |
Did you know you can buy your groceries and CDS will get a portion of the sale? Purchase a Kroger card in the school office for $5.00. It is already loaded with $5.00, so it doesn't actually cost you anything. At Kroger, load the Kroger card with whatever amount you choose. The cashier will then scan your groceries and you will pay with your Kroger Card. It's that easy and you are not spending any money that you would not have already spent. Every time CDS spends $5,000, Kroger will cut us a check for 5%!
We are only a few $100 away from the $5,000 goal. |
| Spread the Word |
Registration for the 2010-11 school year has opened to the general public. Make sure you tell your friends, family, co-worker, etc. who are looking for affordable Christian education about CDS. For every new student who is accepted and attends CDS based on your referral, your family will receive $300 towards your CDS tuition. Referral forms and additional registration packets are available in the school office. |

Snow Day Make-Ups
Dear Parents, Like CDS, many schools in our region had to close school due to inclement weather this year. Having already added one make-up day in May, we wanted to wait until the end of snow season before any further adjustments to the calendar were made. In the meantime, Shelby County Schools made the announcement that that they would not be making up snow days for two reasons. First, their seven hour school day already has a reserve of "banked" days built in to their calendar according to the state department of education standards. Secondly, the practicality of adding school days at the end of the school year has little academic merit due to lack of student attendance and focus. After reviewing the state standards in conjunction with Shelby County's reasoning, to the best of our knowledge, our school would meet those same criteria. Therefore, the decision has been made not to change or extend our calendar for snow make-up days, and our final day of school will be on Thursday, May 20th as originally planned. |
| Family Chapel - Tuesday, March 23 at 12:30 p.m. |
|
Principal Spice will be speaking at Family Chapel on March 23. Parents are allowed to bring fast food lunches for themselves and their child and eat together at noon before the Family Chapel service at 12:30 in the Worship Center. Younger siblings are welcome. You may eat in the classroom or tables will be set up in the Fellowship Hall or Room 252 so parents and siblings may eat together. This is a great time to worship together as a school family. Students must be picked up from the classroom by a parent. Middle school students must report to homeroom and be picked up by a parent for lunch. If your child is going to eat with another student's family, please send a note to the teacher. |
| Jump Rope for Heart |
|
CDS raised approximately $5,000 for the American Heart Association during our Jump Rope for Heart Jump Event in February! Erika Ortiz was 1st place in funds raised, Gunner Campbell was the 1st place jumper - jumping for 30 consecutive minutes, and Emmie Morgan won the drawing to spend a day in PE with Mrs. Forbus.
Thank you
Thank you to Mrs. Forbus, the event coordinator - Dana Whitworth, and all the volunteers: Diana Curtis, Treena Thomas, Kathy Douglass, Becky Brawner, Shay Sepko, Sheila Phipps, Annette Barrett, Livia Bourque, Terri Ford, Wendy Marable, Alisha Reed, Noelle Dunavant, Wuday Thomas, Anne Frey, Barbara Evans, and Heather Riley for all they did to make this event a success.
Jump Clubs
During February, CDS students in grades K-5 have been jumping rope in P.E. and qualifying for Jump Clubs. To qualify for a club, you must have jumped without stopping for the required amount of time. Congratulations to all of the students who participated! Way to go, Jumpers! Keep up the great work (and exercise)! Click here for a complete list of Jump Clubs. |

If you need help with registration, please contact the teacher conducting the workshop or ask for assistance from Stacey Fleming or Dawn Osborn in the office. Once a workshop is full, registration for that workshop will be closed. In order to ensure quality activities, teachers have listed a minimum and maximum number of students. If the minimum requirement is not met, it will be up to the discretion of the teachers whether the workshop will take place. In the event that the workshop is cancelled, you will be notified and your payment will be returned to you. If the workshop exceeds the maximum, the teacher may decide to open additional sections of the workshop. In that instance, you would be notified of alternate dates.
