Kroger Cards
Did you know you can buy your groceries and CDS will get a portion of the sale?  Purchase a Kroger card in the school office for $5.00.  It is already loaded with $5.00, so it doesn't actually cost you anything. At Kroger, load the Kroger card with whatever amount you choose.  The cashier will then scan your groceries and you will pay with your Kroger Card.  It's that easy and you are not spending any money that you would not have already spent.  Every time CDS spends $5,000, Kroger will cut us a check for 5%!

Sixth graders are invited to attend The Crossroads Retreat on March 5 & 6 where the world's messages will be compared with God's. Topics will include self-image, puberty, relationships, and sex. This event is sponsored by the Children's Ministries of Central Church. The cost is $35 and registration is available online. For more information, visit Central Church's website.

From the Desk of Principal John Spice

It Takes A Village

One of the many benefits of being a part of Central Church is the outstanding teaching that is available to our students in various venues of the school. For example, Lieutenant Colonel Cecil Brunson (an elder in the church) gave a compelling talk at a middle school chapel of his experience as a POW during the Vietnam War.  Reverend Gene Sauls gave a practical talk on the advantages and pitfalls of technology and the internet.  Pastor Ernie Frey spoke on relationships and how we need to build one another up in Christ. Youth Pastor Dustin May spoke on ministering to the family over the holidays, and Ron Blackard (Director of Central Learning Center), spoke on using the gifts God has given each one of us according to His plan for our lives. These are just a few of the many gifted and talented speakers God has used to impact our students in Chapel and also as guest speakers in the classroom.

Many of you are aware that Whitney Clay (Junior High Youth Pastor), and her husband experienced the loss of their child not long ago. As tragic as this loss has been to the entire school family, it has also impacted our students for good in ways no one would have imagined. Praise the Lord, Whitney will be coming back to continue her ministry as speaker in our middle school Chapel! The students are definitely excited and look forward to her return. We do ask for continued prayer for Whitney and her entire family for continued healing over their loss of Callie.

We also ask that you be in prayer over both Whitney Clay and Dustin May, who will be speaking to the middle school students on various topics through the month of February. Specifically they hope to cover the following topics:
  1. What is love?
  2. Relationships and identity and how one affects the other.
  3. Godly purity.
Please pray the students will be receptive to these and other questions many teens struggle with these days, and the Biblical answers to those questions.

When we talk about "added value," these are just a few of those things we don't often see listed in a school brochure or web page.  Yet in God's plan for CDS, we are all the beneficiaries of those and many more blessings He has in store for His children called to be a part of Central Day School and Central Church.

Inclement Weather Policy
2headingWe are aware there is snow in the forecast later in the week.  We will be keeping families advised of our closing or delayed start decision through the website, automatic phone notification system, channels 3 (WREG) and 5 (WMC-TV), or you may call the CDS Weather Hotline at 255-8142.  We do not necessarily follow the Shelby County School closing policy - listen for Central Day School. We will do our best to keep parents informed in a timely and efficient manner.
