Parents are invited to meet on Wednesdays from 8:15-9:00 a.m. in the Chapel.  We will be praying for our children as well as CDS teachers and staff.  For more information, please contact Anne Frey at 737-7115.
Kroger Cards
Did you know you can buy your groceries and CDS will get a portion of the sale?  Purchase a Kroger card in the school office for $5.00.  It is already loaded with $5.00, so it doesn't actually cost you anything. At Kroger, load the Kroger card with whatever amount you choose.  The cashier will then scan your groceries and you will pay with your Kroger Card.  It's that easy and you are not spending any money that you would not have already spent.  Every time CDS spends $5,000, Kroger will cut us a check for 5%!

 Love Came Down
by John Spice

love came down

I'd like to take time this holiday season to share with you two true stories. The first one as told by my sister Joyce describes a "surprise" birthday dinner for my nephew, John (not to be confused with me) and his family. The second story as told by the Reverend Gene Sauls is about a prison ministry our sixth graders support every year, and the greater blessing it was for them to give rather than receive.

A Surprise Christmas Dinner

Stacie, John and family went out to an Italian restaurant for dinner the other night for John's birthday. Before dinner, they bowed their heads and said a blessing.  When they were finished, the waitress said their meal was taken care of. The person that paid for their meal left this note for them: "Thanks for giving thanks before your meal. Thank God and all His Glory.  Merry Christmas." So, they had their meal paid for.  Neat thing to have happen, don't you think?

Love, Joyce

Heal the Brokenhearted and Set the Captives Free

Dear Class,

Our trip to West Tennessee State Penitentiary last evening was a huge success. The inmates loved the food bags and the personal hygiene bags that each of you helped put together. The Christmas cards were a special touch as most of the men will probably not be receiving any cards from family and friends during the holidays.

Most importantly, your prayers were felt during our journey there and back, during the check-in, and especially during the services. The presence of our Lord was in that prison last night! Men cried as they sang and responded to the message of the hope that is theirs in the Baby of Bethlehem.

The inmates participated in singing Christmas Carols led by a team of worship leaders who are actually inmates at the prison who used a PA system and key board that are property of the prison. These guys are truly talented and worshipped Jesus with joy and gladness. We went to be a blessing to them but they were a blessing to us!

Pray for the inmates who are Christians, for the young men in their late teens and early twenties who have made bad decisions that have affected their lives and those they love; for the fathers who have children they seldom get to see and for their kids who seldom get to see their fathers. Pray for men like James, Derek, Daniel, Carlos (keyboard player), and 21-year old Sammy.

It is very difficult to be a godly man while incarcerated. Pray that they will band together in groups in the prison for bible studies, prayer times, and just to encourage each other. Pray for the prison chaplains, especially Chaplain Ed Baxter, who is so gracious to plan the Christmas and Easter worship services for the inmates, and so faithful to be there for the inmates to counsel and pray with them during these lonely holiday seasons.

I cannot thank you enough for the tremendous help you were yesterday! We would have been up all night putting sandwiches together-and they wouldn't have been half as good!

May our Lord bless each of you and your families with a joy-filled and peace-filled Christmas!

Rev. Gene Sauls
Director of Men's Ministries and Membership at Central Church

"For to us a Child is born, a Son is given." Isaiah 9:6

These are just a few snapshots of the many blessings we receive as followers of this Jesus called Immanuel, who demonstrated His love for us in that while we were sinners, He died for us. May the love of the One who came down and called us "friend" be known by each one of us this Christmas.

Christmas Program
The Christmas Program (only grades 1-5 and Fine Arts students, 6-8) is Thursday, December 17 at 7:00 p.m.  Please keep in mind attendance for this program is part of the student's music grade.  Please note:  Kindergartners do not participate in this program.

B&N Art08What to wear:  Students must wear a solid red, green, yellow, or blue polo, t-shirt, turtleneck, or blouse. Shirts may not have any writing  or decorations.  However, students may wear a yellow or navy (must be solid not the navy stripe) CDS uniform polo.  Students should wear jeans in good condition without holes, rips, or frays.
Last Day of School
The last day of school for this year is FRIDAY.  This will be a half-day (dismissal at 12:15).  It will be an out of uniform day.  We are encouraging the students to dress nicely for their Christmas parties.  Students may wear jeans, but please do not wear jeans with holes or t-shirts with inappropriate writing.  Handbook guidelines for out-of-uniform: "Out-of-uniform days are not opportunities to dress shabbily, but to dress neatly in a different style of fashion. If inappropriate clothing is worn on an out-of-uniform day, a parent will be contacted to bring appropriate attire to the school before a student can return to class."  We will hold the Birthday Party for Jesus and then return to class for individual class parties at 11:00 a.m.  Siblings are asked not to attend class parties.

From your PTF President
I wanted to give you all an update on what has been happening with your PTF.  The playground equipment has been selected and the underlayment selection is in its final selection phases.  As soon as this is finalized the order wil take place and we hope to have it installed by this spring.  Thanks to each and every one of you who sponsored a child or donated money during the Thunder Run.  We will be running again this April so please keep your eyes and ears open for information from Chairperson Dana Whitworth.

Once again our Barnes and Noble fundraiser was an amazing success.  We raised approximately $2100.  Thank you to Mrs. Lisa Rodriguez.  Lisa and her sidekick, Isabel, worked tirelessly to make this such a special event.  Thank you to our art teachers, Dr. Hester and Mrs. Spice, for helping our students produce such wonderful book covers to decorate the store windows.  We have such talented students. Thank you to all our parents and students who purchased books to fill our classroom libraries.  You are amazing!

We would like to thank, Twana Russell, for coordinating our Teachers' Luncheon last week.  Also a big Thank you to all the parents who sat with the classes allowing the teachers to enjoy the lunchtime together.

In March, we will host our Spring Dinner and Auction.  This is a really great opportunity for you to get to meet and mingle with outher CDS parents.  Watch for more information in the coming months from chairperson, Tricia Davis.

Thanks again for all of the support that you give our students and the PTF throughtout the year.  We hope each and every one of you has the best of times this Christmas.

Blessings to all!
Jennifer Sisson, PTF Chairperson
