Why Do Christians Suffer?
John Spice

This past week, our school family has been saddened by the loss baby Callie, born to BJ and Whitney Clay. This sudden loss has been particularly painful to our middle school students who have been blessed by Whitney's ministry as Jr. High youth pastor and designated Middle School Chapel speaker. B&N Art08

And yet through the tears, questions, and prayers, God has revealed Himself in a BIG way to our students, particularly as He laid it upon the hearts of the eighth grade class to lead out in this week's Chapel.  Following are just a few excerpts of student testimonials shared at the Middle School Chapel on behalf of baby Callie and the entire Clay family:

"John 16:20-22 We know everything happens for a purpose."
- Xavier Barber

"Psalm 23:4 Whitney has meant a lot to our school.  She has been there for me when I have been in a hard situation and when my grandmother died.  She is a strong Christian and through her daughter Callie Marie she is becoming even stronger.  She has lived a Christian life and has impacted me." - Morgan Frey

"2 Corinthians 1:3-11  Callie only lived for 7 hours and 50 minutes. We never know when our life is going to end, only God does.  ... she has already fulfilled God's purpose for her.  I love Mrs. Whitney as well as B.J.  I will be praying for them." - Bradley Thomas

"1 Thessalonians 5:18  I would like to give thanks to God that He is always with us and praise Him that little Callie Marie is safe in His loving arms." - Katherine Mims

"Jeremiah 29:11 Although this is a hard time, God's plan is not to harm you. It is to give you a hope and future.  ... You are in all of our prayers.  I love you!" - Christina Pugh

"Psalm 34:18 The Lord is close to the broken hearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. This tells me that God will be with Whitney. ... Callie Marie has impacted more people in her 8 hours of life than I have in my thirteen years of life." - Rachel Smith

"Psalm 71:1-3; 5-6 In you, O Lord, I have taken refuge ...be my Rock ... I will ever praise you." - Julia Mazzola

"Psalm 7:17; 9:9-10 Callie is safe with God. He is our refuge in hard times and will never forsake us." - Jahnavi Jagannath

"Deuteronomy 31:8 and Psalm 28:1-9  Whitney, you have influenced my life so much.  With everything going on, you have kept your faith and trusted God.  Callie has changed my life so much and many other lives too.  I love you!" - Olivia Robbins

"Death is the gateway to eternal life.  Death is just another step along life's changing way. ... For it is on the wings of Death that the living souls take flight into the "Promise Land of God" ... And none need make this journey undirected or alone, for God promised us safe passage to this vast and great unknown - so let your grief be softened and yield not to despair, we have only placed our loved one into the loving Father's care. (author unknown) We love you, Whitney!" - Dari Doby

Remember, all Dennis-LaRose sweaters, jackets, and fleece look the same.  Please check yours and make sure your name is inside.
Kroger Cards
Did you know you can buy your groceries and CDS will get a portion of the sale?
  • Purchase a Kroger card in the school office for $5.00.  It is already loaded with $5.00, so it doesn't actually cost you anything.
  • At Kroger, give the card to the cashier BEFORE your groceries are scanned and tell the cashier to load the Kroger card with whatever amount you choose.  You will pay the cashier for that amount.
  • The cashier will then scan your groceries and you will pay with your Kroger Card.
It's that easy and you are not spending any money that you would not have already spent.  Every time CDS spends $5,000, Kroger will cut us a check for 5%!
