New to the line-up is Rwanda Buf Café, a delicious coffee which exemplifies Highwire's ability to discover flavorful varieties from small producers. Dense and syrupy with a citrus sweetness, Rwanda Buf Café is an extraordinary bean, with an even more extraordinary story.
Overcoming tremendous personal loss and financial challenges, owner Epiphanie Mukashyaka built Buf Café following the Rwandan genocide. After losing her husband, a child and much of her extended family in 1994, Epiphanie took over the family coffee trees and began farming to support her seven surviving children. Coffee prices were at historic lows. Learning that better quality results in better prices, Epiphanie initiated improvements in the selection, processing and sorting of coffee cherries, and secured micro-loans to upgrade her facilities. Years of hard work focused on high quality have resulted in an award-winning coffee. Buf Café has helped bring electricity and water to Epiphanie's community, and is now the single largest employer in her region.

Although coffee may take the limelight, Highwire is extremely proud of their signature tea collection. Every season heralds tastings and evaluations, selecting only those varieties which meet very high expectations. As in their coffee sourcing program, longtime industry experience and relationships enable Highwire to access small lots from artisan tea producers for just-harvested freshness and flavor.
Among tea connoisseurs, Keemun is a household name, prized for its malty, toasty flavor. Developed in China in the late 19th century for export, Keemun is the backbone of many English Breakfast and other European blends. Keemun Mao Feng is an extraordinary Keemun tea from a single garden, harvested in a remote and unspoiled region of the Huangshan Mountains. Light bodied and very aromatic, Keemun Mao Feng has a smooth, silky quality and a fresh vegetal note in place of the charcoal and minerality typically associated with Keemuns. Harvested between April 20 and April 30 of this year, this is a very fresh, highly prized tea of exceptional rarity.
