Soul Shoppe Information

Principal's Message

Today was a Soul Shoppe day at Murwood.  The students attended workshops with Daniel, our Soul Shoppe facilitator.  They learned that sometimes things happen in people's lives that cause them to act out in ways that are hurtful or harmful to others.  Using the metaphor of "leaking the balloon" students learned that the actions of others can be a result of their feelings.  The younger students identified feelings that prevent people from getting along with each other.  They learned three ways to prevent treating others in harmful ways or bullying.  They are to empty your balloon before you leak out on others, Stop and Breathe, or use the "I feel, I need" statements, similar to the "I Message".  With older students Daniel taught us that there are three different types of bullying: Physical Bullying, hits and kicks, Social Bullying, spreading rumors, breaking up friendships and Verbal Bullying, using "put downs" or making fun of others.  The students learned about F.R.E.E. to stop bullying; Flow - don't let it bother you, Radar- find a way to get safe, move  closer to a teacher or others, Express - speak up, use a strong "I Message" to let the person bullying know that it's not okay, Enough - know when to ask for help from an adult.  These tools are helping us to create a safe school.
