It's fall in Boston; and of all the places in the world, how lucky are we to be here? Crisp windy days, leaves rustling around our feet, the unmistakable scent of a warm fireplace winding around us as we walk through the streets of Beacon Hill...Easy to forget for a moment that things are pretty bleak in the world, and we'd be crazy not to acknowledge that. Still it is important to make time in our lives to celebrate with friends, enjoy time at home with our family, and take comfort in our surroundings.
At Koo de Kir we present a wide range of gift and accessory options for all budgets. Think of us when you need a quick gift meant to be a simple and inexpensive, yet thoughtful gesture (check out our cool herb kits for $10 plus lots of other gifts under $25), or a more extravagant gift like a handmade leather bag by Jack Rabbit LA (at $650 this qualifies as a splurge!). The point is, we search the world for gifts and accessories that reflect our mission to "Give with Style, Live with Style," but style doesn't always mean breaking the bank.

Kristine Irving Sets Autumn Trends For The Globe
|
 |
 |
On Thursday October 9, 2008 The Boston Globe ran a story featuring Koo de Kir's owner and Creative Director Kristine Irving and her take on trends in home design.
Those who know us well understand that Koo de Kir and "trendy" don't go hand in hand. Our goal over the years is to present design with staying power. That said, there is no way to ignore certain threads that run through the design world and this Globe article focuses on Kristine's ideas about what she has seen recently at market and in stores.

Trend Watch #2: LED Lighting Is Green!
Environmentally neutral/friendly housewares is trend we continually spot while buying for Koo. "People are opening stores based soley around recylcled products. It''s become a whole design catagory. The LED bulb in Pablo's Brazo Table Lamp, with its 50,000 hour lifespan will last approximately 25 years.

Trend Watch #3: Recycled Never Looked This Good
Tord Boontje's Transglass Series has been a solid hit for almost two years and is a favorite at Koo. Using recycled beer and wine bottles Boontje laser cuts elegant profiles and transforms mundane throw-aways into sharp and collectible modern design pieces. We are seeing more and more products made from recycled materials. Last month we mentioned the compostible handbags which incidentally have almost sold out. |

Trend Watch #4: Black Is the New White?
We love, love, love black as an accent color. Use a black accessory and instantly add a level of sophisitcation and mystery to your room. Be sure to use it in at least two spots in the same room to create visual balance.
Our pick: Set of 6 black vases $268 |

Trend Watch #5: What's Old Is New Again
From a distance it's a Berger style chair, not all that different from many antique reproductions available in the market these days, but look a little closer...note certain details such as the raw oak frame, the simple, natural linen upholstery and the slightly modernized frame. Close up, this chair rocks. We love that with one piece your room can suddenly have a history and still feel thoroughly modern.
