Your Mortgage Questions Answered

- As Seen on 4 Your Money, Saturday March 31, Channel 4 The Local Station, WJXT

By Cathy Hufstetler, Director of Lending
121 Financial Credit Union

Question: Is this a good time to buy a house?
Answer: House prices are low so it may be the
time to consider a home purchase. Qualifying for
a mortgage is harder than it used to be but that's
actually a good thing. It means that lenders are
reviewing loans more closely to make sure you
can afford the house payment. With the economy
and the housing crisis, there are still people struggling
to make their mortgage payment.

121 Financial CU & the Jacksonville Community

When we renamed the Credit Union in 2012, one reason we chose the name 121 was to symbolize our one-to-one dedication to our members and our community. Our staff has embraced the philosophy whole-heartedly with their participation and support of local and national charities (with local chapters). This year the Employee Forum, a group of volunteer staff, have chosen several charities to support. So far this year, our staff - with the help of our members - has raised over $1300 for MDA, our first quarter charity, by selling shamrocks and buying "dress down days."

Autism Speaks is our second quarter charity and we have begun selling puzzle pieces to staff and members to support our local chapter, and we also will raffle off a giant cupcake (valued at $55) donated by Sweet! by Holly, located in the Town Center. If you'd like to enter the raffle, you can purchase a ticket for $5 at any branch until June 30, and a winner will be drawn on July 2.

How Much Retirement Income will You Really Need?

- Many people underestimate lifestyle costs, medical expenses and inflation.

Presented by Randy Nakamura, CFP®, CRPC®

What is enough? What is not enough? If you're

considering retiring in the near future, you've

probably heard or read that you need about

70% of your end salary to live comfortably in

retirement. This estimate is frequently repeated,

but that doesn't mean it's true for everyone; it

might not be true for you.

- Your First 90 Days FREE!

A "good Identity" is worth more than gold to a

don't have to worry if you're a Benefits
Plus® member. Once
you've joined this exclusive

program, you can use their Identity Theft Protection
Security Center at no extra cost.

Empower Teens to Save

National Credit Union Youth Week just passed
and nine local children won a bicycle just for
dropping by a branch and registering. Along with
their registration "tweens" and teens received a
free My Money Management guide.

Gail Lewis,
Director of Lending at 121 Financial, recently
appeared on WJXT's 4 Your Money segment with
anchor Jason Law (above right) and a former workshop
attendee, Joel Oliver, age 14, to talk about SMART
goals and how using this method helped Joel save
his own money towards an iPad.
