Dear Partners in Service, The New Mexico Commission for Community Volunteerism extends a sincere "thank you" to the volunteer community who gave generously of their time and talent to assist with the "SPOTLIGHT ON VOLUNTEERS CONFERENCE". By all accounts, the conference was a great success.
In my role as the Director of the State Commission, I am constantly amazed at the giving spirit that our New Mexico citizens demonstrate on a daily basis. The depth of experience that is shared with community groups or individuals so that "the playing field" is equalized for every New Mexican is a source of pride, for all of us.
New Mexico is rich with culture and the diversity of our people is robust. The Commission will exhaust every effort to enhance the spirit of service. The Honorable Governor Susanna Martinez appointed a cadre of Commissioners whose expertise and talents are unequaled. The opportunities to plan and implement a pure model of National Service and to establish meaningful community partnerships are tremendous, given the strength of the leadership we can expect from the Commissioners.
With that, I leave you with my personal promise to effectively guide our work, so that we as a State Commission, address unmet needs in our great state. Together, we can ensure that "Service, A New Mexico Tradition" is truer than ever before.
I hope you enjoy reading our Newsletter!
 Romaine Serna, LMSW Director, NMCCV

3-year State Service Plan: Make sure your community's voice is heard!
In 2012, the New Mexico Commission on Community Volunteerism (NMCCV) will create its 3-year State Service Plan, as required by the Edward Kennedy Serve America Act. The Plan will be developed through an open and public process that provides for maximum participation and input from diverse stakeholders.
The overall goal is to effectively coordinate federal, state and local resources to increase volunteerism in New Mexico's communities. The State Plan will guide how state and federal resources are allocated to support volunteerism in New Mexico in the years 2013-2015.

The NMCCV
The indigenous communities of North America and New Mexico have even longer traditions of community-centered social structures and inter-generational responsibility. Democratic participation and civic engagement provide the foundation and framework for our nation's political values. A more active and engaged citizenry remains both a goal and a source of pride for our country and our state.
