Greetings!
New Mexico is an enchanting place to call home. Generations of citizens who have leaned on one another and lent a helping hand during a time of need, taught all of us a valuable lesson, we all need a helping hand at times. The nation and our state are facing unprecedented challenges. The New Mexico Commission for Community Volunteerism believes that "Service is a New Mexico Tradition". In this spirit we recognize the value of National Service and are deeply grateful to volunteers, AMERICORPS, Senior Corps, Vista and to every individual who has responded to the call for service. April is National Volunteer Month, the NMCCV is preparing for the Volunteer Conference. I hope you read and enjoy the NMCCV newsletter. See you in April!!

2012 Social Innovation Fund Grant Competition
The Social Innovation Fund is preparing to launch its third annual new grant competition. In early February, the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) expects to release the 2012 Notice of Funding Availability and will begin accepting applications.
Through the Social Innovation Fund, CNCS partners with grantmaking intermediaries serving low-income communities to grow the impact of promising nonprofit organizations with evidence of compelling results in three priority areas: economic opportunity, youth development and healthy futures. Selected intermediaries receive both funding and technical assistance from the Social Innovation Fund to support their own innovative programs as well as their engagement in national efforts to advance social innovation in the broader nonprofit sector.

Teach for America Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service 2012
What makes a successful social justice movement?
Passion. We can all agree that demand for social justice requires insistence and fervor, not to mention volume and organization.
In honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day - a national day of service named after one of the most recognized faces for social justice in American history - approximately 150 Teach For America * New Mexico AmeriCorps members and community members joined together at Chee Dodge Elementary School in Yahtahey, New Mexico to explore how social justice movements in recent history have triggered wide scale change and how lessons from these movements can apply to closing the achievement gap in education. Corps members and community members engaged in challenging discussions that resulted in great reflection on how we can all ensure social justice for our kids and our communities
