November 2011

Greetings!

I wanted to say thanks to everyone who has supported us over the past ten years. That's how long D3 Multisport has been going strong and sometimes it astonishes me how much reach and impact we've had as a company. Our first couple of athletes were international and that theme continues today.

When we launched the Quarterly Custom Plan last month, I had athletes from all over the world (literally!) contacting me about if they could get in on the action. With something as easy as Skype we now are using it to keep in contact with athletes in China, Malaysia and Australia, to name a few. Crazy but true. Our loyal athletes are keeping the leads coming in and if you have a great story to tell about your D3 experience, please let us know. And if you feel as if we've done a great job with you, please tell a friend.

We have some real neat things in store for 2012 and I hope that you are apart of it. I don't want to give it all away but we are having a relaunch of our website soon and please check out this month's new service - I don't think you'll have an excuse to swim poorly anymore, no matter where you live!

In this month's edition of 'The Extra Mile', we honor Athlete of the Month (Presented by MIX1) Chris Masilon. Great guy. Hard working athlete. Dad. Great sense of humor. What else could you want? Oh yeah - he made the USA Long Course World's Team. Read his interview. It's a good one.

I wrote a piece on goal setting so please check that out. Without a goal, AND a plan, you are like a rudderless ship. We all know how that works out.

Coach Amy wrote a great piece on "Becoming a Runner" - put aside your doubts and read this one. It will inspire you.

Coach Amanda write about balls, foam and ice. Sound interesting? You'll have to read the article to see what it's about.

As always, if you have a question about training, please feel free to send us an email at mike@d3multisport.com and if you are about to purchase a training plan for an upcoming race, please check out our selection of race plans - they are effective and efficient!

Read through the newsletter to learn more, get some great tips and get inspired!

"After working on the drills you gave me, I can already see my times are dropping. I can't believe how much more power I have in the water" - Jessica, VT

If you're serious about improving your freestyle technique and swimming faster, there's no substitute for video analysis.  Even top-tier swimmers have trouble understanding what they're doing in the water without the visual feedback that video provides.  Having your technique analyzed by a professional coach is the perfect way to identify and correct issues with your stroke mechanics.  Find out more

Becoming a Runner

Carol Wilke 2010 Clearwater

As triathlon coaches, we have all heard the following comments somewhere along the way with people we coach, at local tri team meetings, or out on a long Sunday group run, "I just survive the run because I'm not a runner," "I'm just going to ride as hard as I can and use whatever I have left for the run." The run portion of triathlon does not have to be about survival. It is tough at all the distances as it comes after we have already swam anywhere from 300yds to 2.4 miles, and biked 12-112 miles, depending on the distance we are racing. It does not have to be a "sufferfest" because someone has opted not to work on their run. Read more

Goal Setting 2012

Setting goals for your triathlon season is important if you want to improve upon where you are and how you raced last year. Let's look at a few simple ideas when goal setting.

One of the most important aspects of goal setting is making your goals measurable. Your goal could be to 'run a 28:00 minute 5k' but

it shouldn't be to 'get faster'. We all want to get faster in a relative sense, but we should put ourselves out there and 'say what we mean, and mean what we say'. Read more

Rock or Roll?

From an increase in serotonin and dopamine levels, to an improvement in joint range of motion, the many benefits of massage have been repeatedly proven. When massage, as human to human contact, is not an option, take matters into your own hands. While you won't get the same nervous system benefits, you can certainly ward off an injury and help a wound up muscle unwind.  Read more
