Greetings!

Dear Parents of Crossroads and Cornerstone youth,

The Apostle Paul wrote the Colossians, "So, naturally we proclaim Christ, we warn everyone we meet and teach everyone we can all we know about him, so that we can bring everyone  to full maturity in Christ Jesus. This is what I am working and struggling at, with all the strength God gives me!" This is my life verse. It's our desire to see your young person grow with good health, physically, mentally, socially, emotionally, and most importantly, spiritually.

As we head into an active Fall, may God give you deep love and keen insight for the life of your teenagers. Most youth feel disconnected from the adult world and express that it seems that most adults do not fully understand the situation they are experiencing right now. High School is very different now than it was when we parents were there! The technology, values, pressures, teachers, authority, and culture is like another world in comparison.

A helpful hint in relating to your young person is to attempt to connect on a feeling level, before attempting to connect on an intellectual level.  If they feel that you understand and care about the issue at hand, they are much more likely to grasp the information you are trying to communicate. Listening with your heart is a good practice, expressing that you understand how they feel, or at least want to.

This Fall, Crossroads and Cornerstone will be looking at the booklet, My Heart, Christ's Home. The small groups are meeting and new leaders are adjusting well. It is our hope that all kids connect, so if you have young person that is disconnected please let us know.

This weekend the Crossroads and Cornerstone adult leaders, called the Youth Family, are going on our retreat. Pray for this group of 80 volunteers as they pray, plan, and discuss how to better minister to the youth in our ministry. Our Youth Family weekly gathering has been moved to Trinity Lutheran Church on RT 50, between Annandale and Graham road. It is a little different, but seems to work. We are grateful to them for offering their facility for our use. We will still need help with these dinners, so please contact Marti if you can.

Thanks for your support and encouragement as we work together to help your youth grow spriitually.

Jim Byrne

WONDERFUL YOUTH FAMILY!!!!
They are excited!
Our volunteer leaders have been praying, preparing, and planning for an awesome year. We have about 50 returning from last year plus an additional 25 new leaders.

They are Theresa Bennett, Heather Campbell, Samuel Ellis, Preston Hansen, Katie Kallam, Celete Kato, Willie Mears, Ashley Nielsen, Nate Robbins, Emily Robinson, Conant Schoenly, Joshua Shull and Emily Zydiak.

We will have 2 of these Fellows interning in our office - Heather Campbell is the intern for Crossroads and Preston Hansen is the intern for Cornerstone. We are excited to get to know them and work with them. Please join us in welcoming them!

Youth Ministry Scholarships
Parents, an important word about scholarships (and some other details) for Breakaway.....

We are in need of scholarship funds, as this year they have all been depleted to zero. If you would like to help a young person go to Breakaway, please pray and talk as a family about helping to pay for another young person to go. I am sensitive to this issue, because when I was a teenager, I received a scholarship for the first youth trip I ever went on. I'm not sure I would be  a youth pastor if a man in the church in 1970 had not paid my way as a fifteen year old.

The YM office will not arrange rides for you. Please email the youth office with any student who will be arriving late or leaving early AND which parent will be driving him/her.

Also, as some have asked, we cannot reduce the cost for a student who will only be there for a portion of the weekend. This is a choice/cost you will have to weigh in your decision.

There is no planned early bus departure - only in the event of emergency/inclement weather.

Thanks! We are so looking forward to these Breakaway Weekends!

Because of the transition and financial burdens of the church, we are currently rebuilding our scholarship fund. We welcome contributions to our scholarship fund which enables students with difficult financial circumstances to participate in trips and Fusion. Make checks payable to The Falls Church Anglican and note Youth Ministry Scholarship Fund in the Memo line. Thank you.

We especially want to thank all of you, students, parents and leaders for your prayers and support during this challenging season and ask that you would continue to help us in these ways.

Sincerely,
