News from Vintages of Los Gatos |
Greetings!
We opened Vintages here in Los Gatos over seven years ago! Time flies, doesn't it? Last year we finally got our website set up, started a couple of blogs and this year we have added two online sales sites. This is the inaugural edition of what we hope will be a monthly (or so) newsletter. Let us know what you think. Give us ideas for content. Ask questions. And pass a copy along to a friend.

We just held our Annual Holiday Open House. As in years past, we unveiled our Holiday collections, held a prize drawing, had some refreshments and enjoyed a good time.
This year we have both Thanksgiving and Christmas decorative items from a variety of sources. Wonderful ornaments, sparkly garlands and wreaths, vintage Christmas tree pins, and hand crafted decorations and gifts. Read More

Bob's Tips of the Trade
Have you ever had the problem of moisture remaining in a bottle or vase after you clean and dry it? I sure did, until I heard this great tip from Martha Stewart. Just roll or fold up a paper towel and insert it into the bottle or vase, making sure to keep at least a few inches of the towel sticking out the top. Don't roll it too tight -- leave it room to breath. This acts as a wick and will draw out the remaining moisture from the vessel in several hours. Setting it in a warm or sunny spot can speed up the process. Try it and let me know how it works for you.

Collections: Corkscrews
 | Ivory Handled Corkscrews |
I am a corkscrew collector, but I never actually thought about collecting corkscrews. It just happened! Susan and I were in London back in the mid-80s. It was a business trip and she came along so we could add some vacation time to the trip. While wandering the backstreets near Shepherd's Market one day, we wandered into an antique shop. There it was ... this beautiful object with a turned ivory handle and an unusual brush on one side. Since we loved wine, the fact that it was a corkscrew also made it practical. I bought it, thinking how great it would be to open a bottle of old Port with this magnificent corkscrew ... next thing I knew I had a collection. Read on ...
