Help Someone Stay Warm
HAEPTA Collecting for Mr. Rogers Sweater Drive HAEPTA is collecting new and gently-used sweaters, jackets, blankets, hats and gloves for adults and children in need. Collection boxes will be located in the front and back of school during drop off during November. Sponsored in Jacksonville by WJCT, Mr. Rogers Sweater Drive collections will be distributed by local charities to needy neighbors. The top three Duval County schools collecting the most items will receive a special recognition. For over 30 years, through his gentle and loving nature, Mr. Rogers taught millions of little boys and girls how unique they are. More than teaching how to read or basic math, he taught us the most important lesson of all: civility and the importance of caring for others. He taught these lessons to small children so they could grow to be compassionate and sensitive adults who were sensitive and wanted to help others. |

Warning: Priority 1 May Soon Disappear
Act Now to Keep Our Neighborhood School
Two of of three DCPS community meetings to review possible changes to Priority 1 status for magnet assignment were held in October. The sense from these meetings are that we are at imminent risk of losing Priority 1 status and therefore, potentially losing the ability for our children to attend Julia Landon Middle School.
The best chance to impact this is to show up ready to vote and have our voices heard at the final community meeting on Thursday, November 3 from 6-8 p.m. at Darnell Cookman. On the DCPS website, this meeting is described as a "larger community meeting to review options and indicate your preference of choice" - sounds like a community vote. We need you there!
If you want additional information and background about Priority 1 as well as the current status of discussions, please contact Jeff Johns. Again, we MUST be present and be heard at the Thursday, November 3 meeting to have any chance at keeping Priority 1!

Take Pride in Your School
Campus Clean-up Day: November 6
It's been a dry, hot summer - but fall is here! Our first campus clean-up day will be this Sunday, November 6 from 2-4 p.m. Bring your rakes and gloves and help us make the campus look nice for the upcoming Family Night Supper.
Please be mindful to not drive through the lawn of our backyard campus (area where we pick up K-1st graders). Driving on the lawn damages the grass and roots of the trees - it also makes the lawn look yucky!
Thank you for your help and support! Happy Fall!
